We have the advocate but for dd1 she was def rear facing well over 20lbs. Dd2 didn't even go in the advocate until she was already over 20lbs.

I think it's probably saying you can't use forward facing under 20 lbs and they recommend rear facing up to the RF weight (40lbs) or height limit?

Up to 20 pounds the seat can only be used rear facing- 20-40 pounds the seat can be used rear facing or you can turn the seat forward facing. The first time I read the manual I was like ????

Re: Britax Marathon

My ds is 38 pounds and still rf. I didn't realize I had to switch him to ff by 40 pounds.... Is it not recommended to rear face above 40? I never knew that... I was planning to keep him rear facing until or unless he complained, especially since his brother will be rf for a while still.

You have to check the RF limit for your seat. You should have a sticker on it or it's in the manual. My DD actually reached the RF height limit on my marathon before the weight limit because my model bases the height limit on the seat shell. I think some newer models might base the height limit on the head rest.

Well even past the weight if you want to keep your child rear facing you can I thought. I changed my dd to forward facing when she was 3, maybe even 3.5... Its just all around safer regardless of weight or height.

All seats have different limits for height and weight. I have a seat that rf to 50lbs.

Once the limit is hit, it must be switched.

You MUST rear face with that seat when the child is under 20 pounds. And (depending on the manufacture date) the sticker will also.say 1 or 2 years old as well. Those are the minimums. The longer the better with the maximum being 40 pounds

That's correct ^^^^

There are 3 limits for a rear facing seat - overall height, overall weight and room to top of head.

The majority of seats have a 40", 40 pound OR 1" from top of she'll limit. Whichever is reached FIRST.

Some seats have a 37" limit, some have a higher height limit that will almost always be impossible to reach before the child is 40 pounds. You need to read the individual manual for your specific seat (or PM me and I'll be happy to help! Chat Icon )

Once one of those limits is reached (whichever is reached first) the seat has been outgrown in rear facing mode.
