Mother of the groom dress or not?
My brother in law is getting married in September, the wedding is going to be held in Maryland on a lake at a private home, my mother in law ( who is the mother of the groom) is very uncomfortable with her weight. I am pulling my hair out taking her dress shopping as I am the only daughter in law she has. I will admit every dress she tries on is not flattering. So my question is, she found a beautiful pantsuit that looks great on her. Do you think it's appropriate for the mother of the groom to wear a pantsuit?

I think that's fine as long as it's dressy enough. She should wear whatever makes her comfortable and feel good.

Given the location, I would say that sounds fine. Especially considering the situation with her weight.
Also, my mom was a size 22 at my wedding and we found a beautiful dress for her at Macy's in the plus size area. It isn't easy finding flattering items but just in case you wanted another option.

yes, perfectly fine. try davids bridal as well. dresses in store look diff online so def take her to the store and try a bunch on. she can purchase off the rack there.

Thanks for all the quick responses, we tried Macy's. Actually David's bridal was where she found the pantsuit.

Absolutely.. i see no reason why she shouldn't be allowed to wear one. She should be comfortable and a pant suit can still be dressy looking.
To keep the peace, i'd double check with the bride as well just to avoid any issues.. but it should be fine

Of course it's fine. You can find very dressy pant suits with flowy material and wide leg pants that look just as fancy as a dress. My mom wore a pantsuit to my wedding.

I would say perfectly fine!! If she feels it's dressy enough for the wedding, which it seems like it is, I say whatever she is comfortable in she should wear!! A wedding is a long day, you need to be comfortable! How does the bride feel/ BIL feel about it? I'm sure they will agree to wear what makes her comfortable!

Not sure how the bride or groom feel about it yet, she was going to ask today. I thought it looked beautiful on her and with her hair and makeup done it will look even better.

I think its fine, if the bride is very " you know what" she might not like it
but if it looks good on her and she feels good in it she will have a better time

Yeah... she should be comfortable, and I am guessing its a dressy pant suit... My mother wore a plus size dress and it was too tight and ended up ripping at side seam a few inches....
perhaps there is a two piece top/skirt that she would feel comfortable in too, as the top would help conceal some waist.

Both my mother and MIL wore a pantsuit to my outdoor wedding. It never even crossed my mind that they needed to wear a dress. They both looked great and were comfortable, so that was good enough for me!

The pants suits I saw the Davids Bridal website definitely look appropriate. They are even labeled as "perfect for the mother of the bride or groom."

I am for whatever is comfortable and easy to wear! If a person is comfortable in their clothing, they will be happy with their hair and make up. It all goes together!
