Turning crib into bed?
How old was DD/DS when you used a conversion kit to turn the crib into a mini bed? Did anyone skip the crib conversion all together and put them into a twin bed? Thanks!

Turning crib into bed?
Dd was 2.5 when we coverted crib to toddler bed. She lasted a year in that and at 3.5 we converted again to full size. We prob could've skipped toddler all together.

I think she was close to 3 when we changed it to a toddler bed.
I can't really remember though.

we took the front of the crib (we skipped buying the toddler bed conversion because all it was; was a little bed rail) for DD and she was in the toddler bed for only a few months before we moved her into a full size bed with bed rails cause I needed the crib for DS.
DS right now is in the toddler portion and I will keep him in there till I guess I feel like buying a new mattress.
to be honest if I didn't have a toddler bed I probably wouldn't have went and bought one I would have just moved them to a regular bed
ETA both of my kids were 2 when they moved out their cribs DD I had no choice she was climbing out DS didn't like his cirb so I fugred a bed would help and it did

Dd1 will be 3 at the end of June and is very content in her crib. I'm not changing her until she starts to climb out or tries to. I'll go straight to a full size by then probably.

We changed DS into a toddler bed about 2 months before he turned 3. We promised him that when he potty trained he would get a "big boy bed" and we kept our word. He's slept in a twin bed at my parents house but I'm holding off on that for a while because I'd like to get him all new furniture, but I also want to move in a few years and would like to wait until we move for the furniture...though I'm not sure if I can leave a 5-yo in the toddler bed!

We moved DS from the crib to a twin at 2 years old. I would have had to buy the conversion kit and IMO was a waste of money. So we went right to a twin. He loved it!

Turning crib into bed?
We used the back of the crib as a headboard for a double bed. Dd was 18 mo when she went into the full size bed, but I actually wish I would have done it earlier-she was ready around 12 months.

we are by far NOT the norm, but wanted to share.
We took off the front of the crib when Ds was about 1 year old. he moved all over the place and i spent all night hearing him hit his head on the rials. we got a bed rail at ikea to make sure he did not fall out of bed.
at 2, we changed over to a twin bed because he was just too big for his crib.

This will probably be my DD. She's 22 months and loves her crib and I love that she's contained. I have absolutely no intention of moving her to a bed until absolutely necessary.
However, most of my friends moved their kids from the crib around 2 and went straight to a twin or full size bed and skipped the toddler bed.

DS was a little over 2.5 when we converted his crib. we only did it b/c he was trying to jump and protesting sleep. we plan to put him in a "big boy bed" by this time next year.

My dd also loved her crib. We switched to the crib to a toddler bed at a little over 3 and then to a full bed at 4. She is now in love with her full bed and all the room she has.

I'm going to wait as long as possible so I don't walk into a torn apart disaster of a room every morning lol. She just turned 2 and hopefully won't need to change it for a while.

Just wanted to share an alternate view...
We still have 2 older kids in cribs converted to toddler beds (so, the front panel off).. We did the toddler bed conversion when our babysitter broke her arm & couldn't lift (kids were 3&4)! They never, ever climbed out solo (when they woke, we took them out of bed).
Now at 4.5 & 6, they still fit in their toddler beds (kids really fit for a long time in toddler beds).
They both are average size kids.
We love the space. They like their beds & sharing a room.
I will move the 6 year old into a twin or full bed this summer.

My son is 3.5 and still in his crib as well. He doesn't climb out, I don't think he even knows he can. But lately he's been asking for a big boy bed that mommy can lay in too. I may have to keep him in a crib even longer if he thinks a big boy bed means I'm sleeping with him every night!

After her 3rd bday. She wasnt sleeping well anymore in her crib. And when we went on vaca she slept in a bed. Slept amazing. Changed her as soon as we got home lol
I skipped toddler bed went straight to full size bed which is what her crib converted to. I put guard raila on both sides. We have never looked back. Its been great.
If your dc is not having any sleep issues i wouldnt change a thing. If it aint broke dont fix it lol
