How much for bridesmaid dress? ADDED additional questions
How much was your bridesmaid dresses and/or how much have you paid for a bridesmaid dress?
ETA: how much do YOU think is the max a bridesmaid should be asked to pay for a dress before alterations?
Do you think it's ok to inform the bride that the dress is too much?

How much for bridesmaid dress?
Mine we're between $150-$175. The girls chose their own styles and some were cheaper than others. However I did just pay $475 for a bridesmaid dress for an upcoming wedding- not too happy at all

The bm dresses for my wedding was $140. The most I've paid was $275 but I know my sil was just in a wedding and the dress was over $400 which I think is absurd.

200 max and even that's high. My sister was my only bridesmaid and I let her pick whatever dress she wanted. Definitely speak up if you can't afford the dress.

My dresses were Bill Levkoff- They were $210 in all of the regular dress stores, but we ordered through Burton's Bridals in Melville. The dresses were $160 I believe.
My SIL wanted all of the girls to order their dresses for $260 for her wedding, but I spoke to her and explained that it was a lot to ask of the girls and suggested looking into Burton's. We saved a decent amount.
I think anything over $250 is alot to spend on a dress.

Mine were 160. The most I paid was 260 before alterations. I think that 200 should really be the upper limit for bridesmaid dresses.

I would say max $200 as well before alterations. And I do think it's ok to tell the bride it's too much. I would have in my situation- (I posted about this a few weeks ago). I didn't just to avoid the conflict with all I have going on with fertility treatments and whatnot. However if I was not so focused elsewhere I would have said something or politely backed out from the wedding since that dress was so costly. I paid it and regret not saying something

I only had 2 bridesmaids. The dresses were Jcrew and they were a bit pricey...they got them on sale for something like $200 I think (before alterations). But normally they are over $270.
My SIL (who was one of my bridesmaids) ended up using the same dresses for her wedding in September and we also paid just over $200 for them before alterations.
Most of the weddings I've been in the dresses have been anywhere from $175 - $250.

I haven't been in any weddings in 10 years at this point, but $200 should be the max. And I DEFINITELY think it's okay to tell the bride it's too much. At the end of a day, no one has a right to dictate how others spend their money. People get a little stupid with weddings.. your special day does not require people consider bankruptcy.

IMO the max I would pay is $250, and yes if I had a problem with the price I would def tell the bride if I couldn't do it financially. Being in a wedding party gets expensive between the dress, hair, shoes, makeup, shower, and bachelorette party.

Around $150 for bridesmaid dresses, mine and others. I paid the full amount for alterations for my cousins wedding because they deliberately ordered me a dress 2 sizes too big. Then had to cut it down to.size...I was not happy.

thanks for the input. i am gong to try to call around a couple more places for pricing.
the dress is $285 before tax and alteration and most likely we will be having to purchase a special bra for this dress. Shoes etc so my attire for the day of alone is going to cost me at least $500 and that to me is crazy! not including hair and makeup!
I am MOH in this wedding and all of us already have to pay for the entire bridal shower ourselves for a list of 75 people. while its not a destination wedding me and a 2 other bridesmaid will have to pay for an hotel to stay at the night before the wedding. we still have the bach party to pay for. this cost is getting out of hand and there is no consideration by the bride for any of this. my wedding was only 100 people max. my girls dresses were $100 (and long story short i ended up paying for them) i was very reasonable and not demanding on things. i get not everyone is like me but i think people really need to at least consider what they are asking from people. 
I am trying to remain calm. one bridesmaid has already said something and the bride said she will not change the dress.
If I can not find the dress cheaper I will be telling her I will not be paying for the dress if that means I am out of the wedding so be it.

I've paid between $150-$300 for bridesmaids dresses. I am about to pay over $100 for alterations or just buy a new dress because after a 40 pound weight loss the dress falls down to the floor as I walk.

one bridesmaids i dont know but from what it seems she is good with money and just going with it. and she has 2 grils in it and their dresses are like $230. which reminds me that my DD is supposed to be a flower girl and I have feeling that dress is over $200 
one of the bridesmaid is my BFF and she is just as pissed at me at everything being asked of.
The last one I don't know how she feels but I do know she doesn't have all this money to spare but she may just suck it up and not say anything. I have been debating reaching out to her

this is my other issue too but def. my problem; I know. I am currently on a diet and thinking I will be probably 20lbs lighter by the wedding ( I am very strict when I am on a diet and commit very well) so I am sure my dress I order in the next week will be a much different size that I need by the wedding!

I once paid $350 for the ugliest dress ever, and this was about 10 years ago.
For my wedding,I gave the girls, the designer and color I wanted, and each chose their own dress. They ranged from $120-$180.

For my wedding I believe the bm dresses were about $175. All of the other bm dresses that I have had to purchase were over $200. The most expensive dress was about $270 plus $100 in alterations because I thought I would be pregnant by the time the wedding happened and ordered a huge a$$ size, but that was totally on me.
I think anything over $300 is way too expensive and it's totally okay to tell a bride that their dress choice is too expensive.

this is why i refused to have a bridal party yet guests still ask me what i want them to wear !!!
" wear whatever makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. show up and have a great time" is not good enough. after i tell ppl that they then ask me "long or short dress? what color do you prefer?"
