Do people actually have drama on this board over Disney posts, and not liking Disney? I don't recall ever seeing that. Why would anyone start drama because somebody doesn't like Disney?
Anyway, we go often because my kids have food allergies and for us it works. They go above and beyond to accomodate us, and for my family, that is priceless. We hardly ever eat out, and vacations are difficult to plan around food. We like to be pampered too on vacation, and for us that means being able to walk into any restaurant and my children being able to eat food, and decent food, not a prepackaged safe sandwich, etc., in a fun setting. We don't crazy plan, except for dining because that is a big deal for us as a family to be able to enjoy. We tried going to a resort type town last year, stayed at a nice hotel, and had a major food problem. It wasn't relaxing or fun. We like what Disney offers us and we know how to plan a little bit to have a great time. You can make a Disney trip into whatever it should be for you and your family. There are a lot of options of how to plan or not plan, and how to spend your days.
Can you tell me about the allergy friendly restaurants? My daughter has several severe food allergies and we will be going in August. Thanks!

Absolutely! We have nut allergies. Our experiences have been wonderful; we have eaten at every restaurant we wanted to. At table service restaurants, you report the allergies at the time of reservation. Once there, your server will bring the chef out to your table to discuss the allergies. They will then tell you what is safe on the menu, what may have been cross contaminated in processing etc. If there is nothing safe for your child on the menu that they want, in our experiences, they have offered to prepare something else that is safe the child wants to eat. At buffets, the chef will walk you through the buffet pointing out what is safe and what isn't. If you don't feel comfortable using the food from the buffet, they will make fresh batches of what the child wants and bring it directly to you. At quick service or counter service, we have been handed ingredient lists to read, and we have also had the managers prepare separate, safe food.
We have eaten breakfast at Boma, which is delicious, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickeys, Cinderella's Royal Table, Akershus, Be Our Guest (lunch and dinner) Sanaa, Prime Time 50s cafe, Columbia Harbor House...basically anywhere! They are wonderful. Every parent has their own comfort level with allergies and cross contamination, but we have not had a problem and it is such a treat for us to be able to enjoy vacationing like this. Good luck! The first time I went I was @ 16. I hated it. Mainly because at that time only Magic Kingdom existed and IM{teenage}O it was for "little" kids. The second time I went I saw it through my then 4 year old's eyes and had an AMAZING experience. We've been back every year since (sometimes twice), and the sheer joy she gets out of it makes it all worth it. I think we are up to 12 trips, with 13 & 14 planned and booked for this year.

Probably 5 or 6 times as a kid, once as an adult with no kids and so far twice with DD with a third trip this Xmas.

I was never into princesses as a kid & never cared about animated disney movies as a kid but I just love Disney World.
DH took me for my first time when I was 18. We have taken our kids once so far but are planning the kids second trip for next year, hopefully.

I went for the first time at 14--what an awkward age for a first trip!
Then I went shortly after I got married with my in laws, my BIL, SIL, and their 3 boys--so much fun!
We've gone three times with the kids and have a 4th trip planned.
So 5 times, in all.
I don't know what it is--on paper, I hate Disney. I hate characters, crowds, heat, lines, you name it, I hate it. But despite myself I freaking love Disney World! There, I said it...I love Disney World!

I went to the Magic Kingdom for one day in college. I've been 3x as an adult without kids and 3x with kids (once just to MK for a day). We are planning a trip for the fall right now.
The last time we went we traveled with family members with severe allergies and it was fabulous. Not just inside the park, at a lot of restaurants outside the park as well (we stayed offsite).

I went twice as a kid at ages 5 and maybe 11? Then DH and I went to Hollywood Studios one time and Epcot another time (His sister lives about an hour from there). Those last 2 trips happened 8-10 years ago and we haven't been back since.

This is not the popular answer, but I don't see the hype and I gave it two shots. For many reasons. Short answer: its just not for me. The crowds, the lines, the heat, the minute by minute planning a year in advance... the way they overcharge for everything.
Probably will not be going back for a long long time... if ever.
My kids prefer the beach /pool over Disney anyway

After the past few awful months we've had, I'd like to take a vacation and considered Disney because I know my 2 year old would love it but reading all of these posts here and on fb about all the planning that goes into it plus thinking about all of the crowds and lines... yeah no. Plus the cost! It's crazy! My focus has shifted to going on a disney cruise instead but even that is just insanely expensive compared to other cruise lines.

As a kid and young adult probably about 7 times. Since DD has been born another 6, so 13 times total. We are now on a cruise kick but will go back to Disney next summer.

I went when I was 4, 9, and 15 with family.
My parents and sister moved to southwest Florida when I was 21. I brought my sister to Disney when I was 26 because she had been through a bad breakup and I wanted to cheer her up.
And I just went in January with my sister, mom and niece.
I smuggled in alcohol to the Magic Kingdom on this latest trip. Disney is not my favorite, but I wanted to go for my niece's first trip.
Now that's done so hopefully I won't have to go for another decade.

I really don't think you can compare the amenities at a value to a deluxe. AoA is cute, but I wouldn't stay there again I don't think. Wasn't a fan of the food court, nor the HUGE lines at the bus stop. The place is massive and there are TONS of people. GF has a nicer pool with an Alice themed kids area. I would personally pick the GF. Can't beat being on the monorail!

It has a quick service place, a sit down restaurant and a bar that has great entertainment.

I've been to Disney so many times...it always seems to be some sort of anniversary when I end up being there. My first trip was when I was 2....then many times after that. DH and I have gone a bunch of times without our son even.
We took our son (now 5) for the first time this past November, and all he says is that he misses Disney and wants to go back. So we will take him back in a few years once the new baby is old enough to handle it as well.

They are RIDICULOUSLY good with allergies. The table service moreso than quick service, but I've never had a problem. There is a great group on facebook all about food allergies at Disney. it's a great resource.
