Eyes not getting enough oxygen

My eye doctor just told me this! She told me no more than 12 hours a day of contact wear and I have to go back to see if there is improvement. My eyes were so bloodshot at the appointment due to lack of sleep. I will have to take out contacts before I leave work which is going to be really annoying!

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks

Eyes not getting enough oxygen

My husband was told no contacts for 3-4 weeks a number of years ago because his eyes were "swollen" or something like that.

Re: Eyes not getting enough oxygen

I've had this issue for years. I need to limit my lense wear and I wear expensive lenses that are supposed to help oxygenate.

Yes my sister had this happen

She had been going to the same eye dr for a long time and always got the same kind of contacts. She wore that kind of contact lens for so many years. Her new eye de said that tge contacts she has been using didn't 't have "holes" to allow oxygen come in. So she had to buy the newer kind and wore them for shorter durations. Now she has chosen to only wear glasses

Re: Eyes not getting enough oxygen

I was told this when I went to get my laser eye surgery....they said that my eyes were so dried out from wearing my contacts all the time so I had to wear glasses for a few weeks before they would do the surgery

Also, what kind of contacts are you wearing?
Did the dr suggest changing? The ones I have (Air Optix) allow a LOT more oxygen through to the eye

My SIL wears the daily disposables and SWEARS by them. Before that, she'd be getting pink eye all the time for some reason.
She wears the 1 day accuvues

I had the same issue and switched to air optix as well and feel they have helped.

I also try to wear my glasses at least one full day per week even though I am not nuts about them.

Also, try to make a new routine of taking them out as soon as you get home.

Yes. The dr told me this a few years ago. She switched my lenses to a more porous one and told me I need to wear my glasses for 1 full day at least once a week (I do this on the weekends). Hasn't been brought up since.

What kind do you wear? I was switched to Biofinity, and my Dr. said he saw improvement. I still wear my lenses about 14-16 hours a day.

I have been wearing contact lenses for years, but have never been told that. I did have many issues with dry eyes over the years. Due to that, I have tried the Acuvue Daily lenses and was extremely happy with them!

I have since switched to the bi-weekly lenses (due to budget changes), but would highly recommend the daily lenses, although they can be pricy.

I do wear my glasses most days now and find if I leave my lenses in my eyes get extremely dry.

HTH!

I am the same. Sometimes months. I really can't stand waking up and not being able to read the alarm clock. Last time I went for an eye exam, they didn't say anything about the condition of my eyes.

I used to use these but because I am so horrendous with taking them out I was switched to day/night formula that allows continuous air flow and can be worn while sleeping. Theyre AMAZING!

How did you do this? Don't we still need a script? I'm sitting here in glasses because I'm on my last pair of contacts and I have to make an eye appointment...

Ooh FM me please! I tried to order from Canada once and still needed a script.
I do need my vision checked though. I think I need to go up a step. But I could use an extra box until I can get a weekend appointment.

Eyes not getting enough oxygen

Yes. I no longer wear contacts for this reason. 4 years ago, I went to the eye doctor and her reaction when she looked into my eyes is something I'll never forget. She then pulled out a chart and said I was one step away from blindness. So from then on, I started wearing my glasses full time. I can wear contacts on occasion- like a special event or something.

Due to my astigmatism, I can't wear the more breathable contacts- I see auras around lights.

everyone should be more conscientious about their contact wear. It's really scary to be told that you're close to blindness.

I'm 8.7 bc too. I tried to switch to an 8.5 once and got headaches from them. One of the reasons I have used the same brand for so long. Would love to switch to Dailies.

That is very scary. What was the cause?

This happened to me as well. I do not wear contacts anymore, glasses full time.

Wearing my contacts too long. I wasn't giving my eyes a chance to breathe so the blood vessels in my eyes started growing in my corneas or something like that.

Eyes not getting enough oxygen

my mom had an issue years ago. used to used the extended wear, but one time they gave her dailiy ones and she didn't know it. went to the eye doc and they said because of the lack of air permeability, the blood vessels in her eye were growing, and they're not supposed to. she was banned permanently from wearing contacts other than maybe for special occasions for a few hours at a time. went back to glasses and hasn't work contacts in alot of years because of that screw up.
