Re: Can I just invite 1 twin over for a play date?

Depends... are they boy/girl or girl/girl, boy/boy?
DD has a best friend who is a twin (boy/girl) she has her girl friend over for play dates often not having her brother along. It is nothing against the brother, but girls like their time together!

Can I just invite 1 twin over for a play date?

If you have not had both over in the past and your child is only friends with one of them I do not think there is anything wrong with inviting the one friend and not the other.

Invite a different friend over to play -

Until they are older, and truly have their own friends althought you CAN, IMO, youi really shouldn't do that

I agree. Although they're not really friends, they've played together before. Also I think u said he was 7? He'd most likely feel left out if he doesn't get invited.

Why is it not nice at those ages? Twins are also individual people..

Well for me if my twins hung out with kids and them all the sudden only one was invited. Well I would take the hint

And have to explain to the not invited one

That doesn't mean they can't and don't do separate accio yes and playdAtes. Two separate things

I don't have twins but I do have 2 boys who are exactly 2 yrs apart.

Older child gets invitations for only him often. I declined for a while or just invited kids to our house because it was too much drama for younger child. It just wasn't worth it.

Now that the kids are a little older, younger DS has his own friends. I try to plan so that when older DS has a play date, younger DS also has plans with one of his friends.

My kids are 23 months apart but I think it is hard to compare 1-2 years apart vs twins in the same grade...maybe class.

I think the fact that the OP had them both several times makes it awkward to just invite one. I take it since they are a year older they are not in class with your child? I think inviting be twin is difficult unless your child is in class with only one twin and generally only plays with the one.

We have avoided play dates before when one twin is super nice bu the other one was really cruel to my daughter.

I ended up inviting another friend over.

The dad ended up texting me to have our kids over to their place. We already had plans so we declined. We have a PTA school event this week that I am chairing. I will just see the twins there.

I think you and others are right. Since we have been playing with both twins, I can't just suddenly change it. I prefer to avoid the drama so I will not be hosting the twins at my house. I don't mind at all meeting them at a public place.

Re: Can I just invite 1 twin over for a play date?

Twins asked if they could come over so I said yes for an hour. They destroyed DS's lego sets. DH is furious because several of the sets were $100+ sets that DH spent hours with DS building. DH said he never wants those kids over again. I have never seen DH so mad about another child before.

I guess your problem is solved then.

I don't understand how they could have don't that so quickly and Lego sets always easily fall apart. My son loves them and we spend hours putting them together..they always fall apart.

Well I guess you don't have to worry about them coming over anymore

Why were the Legos out if they weren't "supposed" to be touched etc

Idk I'm just a firm
Believer in there are no bad kids. Some kids play quiet, some more loud

Se like to knock things over. I know if my son saw a big tower he wants to go and knock it down. He doesn't know it took long to build etc

This is silly to me.. Legos sets are expensive but the fun is to use your imagination. My son spends hours putting the sets together, plays with them but then decides to destroy them and creates his own thing. He's asked me and I encourage it.

I guess my only question is... nm DH was your son upset? Were they in the room destroying his sets and upsetting him or was he fine with it and they were being kids?

I was going to respond to the original post but seems like that was figured out.

It's frustrating for sure when some kids get wild or don't listen during play dates, but as for the Legos, we have a few of those Creator sets - that are more for my husband although he put them together with the kids. I have to say, the sets that he doesn't want to have pulled apart are kept out of reach of our own kids, but especially when they have friends over, so that they don't knock them down, because it's what kids do

As a mother of twin boys, I hope I never have to deal with this scenario. It should be both or none.

I would not invite just one. Not sure how one would even ask this without making the twin mom feel bad.

I am also a mom of twins & I say NO.
I am not sure how I would explain to my boys. I also have to say that one of my boys works with a therapist. Since you say one of those twins is not very nice, depending on age, they may have same problem & need to learn how to play. My boys are 4yr

I agree with the other moms, if you don't want kids to touch something..put away.
How can you expect to have lego out & then not have them touch it.

It's almost like bringing them to carvel & saying No Ice Cream.
