Disney Cruise
So we are close to going. I am wondering if you have any tips or tricks? Any boards or sites to belong to? Any books? I feel like I need to research!

We just got back from our second disney cruise. So much fun! We did the 3 night Disney cruise to the Bahamas both times.
Unlike Disney parks, the Disney cruise doesn't require much planning. You just show up and get the schedule of what is happening on board that day.
There is an Unofficial Guide to Disney cruises. I skimmed it at Barnes and Nobles a few years ago.

we went on one last november--- and we're heading on another one in January 
like other people said... the beauty of the cruise is that you can just kind of show up! they give you a schedule every day of the happenings/character greetings, etc. so just check that out at night before bed so you can plan your next day
the cool thing on the disney cruises is that your rotate restaurants every night. so you have a different restaurant you eat in every night- BUT you'll have the same server every night. its a really really neat way to do it. they give you your schedule for that when you check in. and, you don't HAVE to eat at the sit down restaurants--- you can always do the buffet or whatever. And take advantage of the room service, too- its included
castaway cay is amazing!!!! you'll love it there- so much for every body to do rent bikes, snorkel, just hang out, water spray area for the kids...
i think really the main thing if you haven't done it yet-- is book any excursions you want to do at each stop. ( you find them on the website).

Scroll to the top of it from the beginning. It's true you can just board and go, but some helpful tips make it more enjoyable. The Dream and the Fantasy are the same exact ship. There are some differences in their shows and programming though.

You can bring I think 2 items per cabin and drop off at the desk to have signed by characters. I did picture frames from Michaels and decorated with Disney cruise stickers. Was a cute keepsake from trip. You can do traditional characters or princesses.
When you get on the ship there will be a large line to get tickets for character meet and greets. A helpful tip is when you are at front desk dropping off items you can request tickets and skip the much longer line that forms at shore excursion desk for tickets.
You can decorate your door with magnets. They have something called fish extenders where you sign up and get little treats throughout the cruise from different people. In future I would probably just bring for kids and personally buy little treats to put in each day. Kids liked coming back to find surprises at room.
They had a pirate night and knowing in advance I was able to bring pirate costumes for kids which was fun.

They discontinued allowing the items to be signed now unfortunately! The new policy went into effect right after we cruised this past Summer.

THey stopped that in September, so just take an autograph book and the when you meet the characters, you can get the book, or whatever you want signed.
Also, if you want to do the princess meet and greet - as soon as you board, make a beeline to guest services, and sign up. Elsa and Anna are separate tickets. The line goes by super quick, and unless you are concierge level guests that's only place to get the tickets.
Pirate costume is cool, we dressed up
If you have any Disney character costumes, take it with you because it is super expensive on the boat. I packed DD's Elsa costume literally as I was walking out the door, and thankfully it came to use twice on a seven day cruise!
Do go to the shows.. they are amazing! My 3 year old stayed up for it all! 
Enjoy it.. we had a blast!
