We missed our flight leaving to go to St. Lucia and the only flight we could get was to Puerto Rico, which then took us to St. Lucia....but it was overnight....so we spent the first night of our honeymoon on the floor of the airport in Puerto Rico and wound up missing the entire first day of our honeymoon.

Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

We went on a cruise and then to Disney. The last day of the cruise I started not feeling to well and as the day progressed and we checked into Disney I was sooo sick. I couldn't breathe and was coughing like crazy. I was in bed for two days then then called in the doctor and I had a really bad case of pneumonia. They put me in the hospital for a few days, all the while paying for a ridiculously priced concierge room at Disney. I was finally well enough to fly home, got a relapse and missed a month of work. Poor husband who is a Disney fanatic wasn't able to see anything at all as he was with me the whole time. Ironically, it was the last time I was sick in the 12 years of marriage lol.

Omg. The same thing happened to us. Except we didn't miss our flight. We had a connecting flight through PR. We boarded the plane and then we all had to unboard the plane. They found the cockpit open with a bible on the floor. No one knew how it got there. So they wouldn't let the place take off.

The next flight to St. Lucia was 8 hours later. I told DH let's leave the airport and go to San Juan for a little bit. He refused. He was mad about the flight and we didn't know where we were so he was like lets just stay here. Chat Icon

What a tiny, crappy airport to be stuck in! Well all the people who were on our flight went to town, had a great time, ate delicious food and drank and came back with plenty of time. I was so annoyed at my new husband!!!! Luckily the rest of our trip was great except after 12 days we literally had nothing to say each other! We were with each other every waking second.Chat Icon

We were sitting at dinner at the hotel restaurant when I noticed 2 men walking up from the beach and putting bandannas on their faces and I was thinking to myself this is odd, no sooner where the 2 men in the restaurant and snatched our camera off the table. I jumped up ready to charge after them in full NY style, when my DH said they had a gun, obviously I stopped dead in my tracks but I guess I freaked them out because they took off running down the beach.

Sort of same thing happened to us...We were flying to Australia but when we got to LA we found out our flight was delayed so we had to postpone the honeymoon for 1 day and spend a day in LA. Definitely not the end of the world, we were so happy we didn't care. Plus DH was relieved since he was hung over anyway and wasn't looking forward to getting right onto another long flight!

Aruba.

My DH and I went on a 4-wheeler tour. There were 2 people per quad. We were traveling single file. We were the 2nd vehicle in the lineup. The couple on the quad behind us wound up losing control and flipped over. The wife went flying off the back and hit her head. She had blood pouring out of her mouth. The husband was dazed and couldn't get up. Because we were on a remote part of the island, and there was only one main road to where we were, it took a long time for the ambulance and police to get there. The wife died at the scene. Other riders were trained EMT's and they tried to revive her, but she was gone.

We saw the EMT-couple walking in our hotel two days later. They said they went back to the hospital to visit the husband. They were able to get their contact information and called their families back home. The husband and wife were in their 50's, and they had adult children. The EMT-couple had to tell them that their mother had died since the husband was still unconscious.

We were very far from the starting point, and the tour guides were adamant that we continue with the tour. There was no way for all of us to get back. My DH and I were scared shitless the rest of the ride. We saw first-hand how unsafe this tour was.

That memory will stay with us forever.

Omg this is so horrible! Was this the tour to the natural springs baths? On our HM, I was so scared on a jeep tour there because the terrain was so dangerous and we actually got lost alone because we couldn't keep up. I would never do any type of excurtion in Aruba ever again.

Re: Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

Not a horror story at all but we went to Aruba where it rains literally 3x a year.

Well... yup, it poured while we were there and since they aren't really prepared for it, the resort lost electricity for a while so it was HOT without AC in the room overnight.
When we woke up, everything was back to normal.

Re: Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

Ours wasn't as bad as a lot of these stories. First we were shipped to the DR b/c the resort we booked in Mexico was demolished in Rita or Wilma (2005) and it was not half as nice as where were supposed to be. Plus they were super crowded due to the hurricane (sister resort from the one in Mexico). So they bring us to our room, whish was supposed to be ocean front and all I see in grass. Said, this is not what we paid for...I want our room Had to wait for it the next day. So next day we are walking over to the new room and the guys says, "Just to let you know the only ocean front room we have has 2 double beds". Seriously! At a couples only resort you have rooms with 2 small beds??? They tried to push them together but the space in the middle was ridiculous so we wound up on separate beds most night. We tried to stay on one double but we both like our space once we fall asleep.
Then they were just annoying, could tell they were overwhelmed, really not interested in having guests there. And they answered everything with "Si, Excellente!" That got old quick. Oh and I had booked everything before we were married (duh), so in my maiden name and they kept calling my husband Mr. Mymaidenname. That I found amusing!

Re: Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

Some of these stories are just crazy. I am so sorry for those of you that endured such traumatic events. I hope subsequent vacations are much kinder to you and that families involved in the events you witnessed have been able to heal.

I have an experience that was not from my honeymoon, but it was while my DH & I were fairly new at dating each other (few months).

We booked an all inclusive to Dominican Republic (first trip together)

Got off the plane into a cab to the hotel. WE were laughing, joking with cabbie when All of a sudden my hubby screeches and proceeds to have a Grand Mal seizure. I know he suffered from epilepsy in the past, but had not had a seizure in over 10 years, nor was he on any medication for it. In the past his mom told me he seizures were only petite mal. I am at least glad I knew this information, so I did not panic. I just asked the cabbie to find us a Dr or clinic. Poor driver was freaking out, but got us to one. I was prepared to just sit it out at the office, but they wanted to give fluids. I was very skeptical of the care he would receive. I did make sure all medical equipment came out of sealed, sterilized packages. It took him a while to come around, but he finally did, and we got to the hotel. It was mainly scary because I do not speak a lick of Spanish, and they spoke no English.

Because his seizure was so out of the blue, US Dr. was concerned about consecutive seizure activity which would require intubation, so wanted us back pronto.

I spent thousands between cell phone usage and getting us back home next day...TOTALLY SUCKED!

Hope to make it there again someday without all the drama. I also buy trip insurance now, lol

Yes, it was the 4-wheel tour to the natural springs. In fact, my profile picture is one of the pictures we took on that tour. (coincidence, since that has been my pic for a while.)

Yes they do! In hindsight we should have known better. Before the tour started there were several things that were unsafe, but we were all looking forward to the trip and were carefree.

The helmets were flimsy and said something like "not to be used as a safety device". My DH and I remember one of the other people on the tour joking about that before we started.

Not only that, but we were seated two people per quad - on a one-person bike. I rode behind my husband. We fit on the seat, but it was intended for one rider.

Also, most of the tires on the bikes were bald or balding. This is something we didn't notice until after the accident. We had a tough time maneuvering the terrain because we had little traction. There were some steep hills after the accident, and I remember having to lean ALL the way forward so the bike wouldn't flip (you would do that on most hills anyway). The tires were slipping, not to mention our nerves were shot.

It was a pretty scary ride.

But there was nothing on the local news about it at all. It's a tourist attraction and they probably didn't want the word to get out. My husband asked a few local bartenders if they heard about it. They didn't, but then one found a small article about it in a local newspaper. It was written in their local language, not English, so it wasn't put into the mainstream media.

Wow, Some of these are really horrors! I feel bad complaining about mine now compared to some of these. They gave us a hotel room with 2 double beds...that had ants all over the place. Then we switched rooms and all was good. Then I got a really bad ear infection, I was already pregnant so i had morning sickness. And to top it all off DH's ex wife kept calling him non stop the entire time, even after we turned the cell's off, she found the name of the hotel we were staying at from his mother and called there!! Freaking stalker.

Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

I was on the Princess cruise ship that went on fire. We had enjoyed 4 days of the cruise when we were en route to Jamaica and like 3 am I heard sirens. I looked out the balcony and saw embers flying over the ship. Around 2 minutes later the emergency horns blew and we had to get to the muster station.

All the life boats were lowered and needless to say, I was freaking out. All I could think about was titanic. Anyway, to make a long story short, the whole ship was at the muster station for 7 hours. Around 120 cabins burned and one person died. It made the news and all the cruise ship horror stories.

We were lucky tho because our side of the ship was not burned, but the others weren't so lucky. All their belongings were trashed. I'd you google princess star fire, pictures will appear. I will never forget that for as long as I live. So scary.

Re: Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

We were in Hawaii for two weeks, but on Day 3 of our trip, I got food poisoning. Salmonella, I think, from a breakfast buffet. But I didn't want to ruin our honeymoon so I tried my best to do all the activities we had planned - snorkeling, sightseeing, hiking. If I had just stayed in bed for 2 or 3 days I think I might have recovered ok, but I was out running around doing all this stuff, and was crazy sick for so long. I had a fever for 2 days and after that I couldn't eat anything. We went to all these beautiful restaurants and I would just eat white rice and run to the bathroom every 10 minutes.

On Day 5, someone stole my camera, so the only "good" times we had on the honeymoon, we have no pictures of.

On Day 8, we missed our flight from Maui to the Big Island. They told us the next flight would be the following day. My husband lost it. He literally had a temper tantrum in the airport - threw himself on the floor, pounded the floor and yelled, "this is the worst! I'm not waiting for tomorrow to get off this f**kin' island!" I was like, "You look like a crazy person! Get off the floor or TSA is going to carry you away in handcuffs!" Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff: Honeymoon horror stories

We were in Egypt and my DH got really, really sick (we think a combo of food poisoning and 120 degree heat). He was throwing up for days. He tried to be a trooper and go sight-seeing one day and ended up throwing up on the side of the pyramids and we were promptly escorted away. We had a private tour guide with us the whole time we were in Cairo who kept suggesting she would take us to a local hospital where he could get a shot to stop the vomiting. There was no way on earth he was getting a shot in an Egyptian hospital, so he just waited it out. The rest of the trip was incredible, but for those couple of days, not so much.
