Is summer a good time to go to Hawaii?
Thinking about surprising DH with a trip for his 40th. He is a teacher so the only reasonable time we can go is christmas break or summer. Anyone know if either of these times is better? Thanks!

It's always a good time to go to Hawaii! 
Out of the two, I'd pick summer. Christmas is super expensive and crowded.
The weather is basically the same year-round. Their "rainy season" is January-March, but usually if it's raining on one side of an island, it's sunny on the other.
In December, you'll get the beginning of whale season, which is very cool, but like I said, it's crowded and expensive.

I went last year at then end of July/Beginning of August and it was PERFECT!!! Yes it was hot some days, but overall we had great weaterh and an amazing time. I wish everyday i was still there!

Yep...the weather is the same basically year round. They don't even have a weatherman on the news!

This sounds like my dream come true.
I was just saying the other day i need to find a place to live where it is always summer. Just summer. No other season.

I don't think any time is a bad time, although you will probably pay more in the winter. I went in June when I was married for my HM and had an amazing time.

Way too long a flight for just a weekend.
Hawaiian airlines has one non-stop on the JFK/HNL route. It's 10 hrs 45 minutes going and 9 hrs 45 minutes coming home.

Hawaii doesn't have an official rainy time -- or season. But, December and January are known as their unofficial rainy season. Those two months is when Hawaii sees the most of it's rainfall. My Aunt and Uncle went there in the end of December - around Christmas time - for 10 days and it rained eight out of the ten days.
Knowing this when I went to book my trip back in 2007 I spoke to my TA about it and she said yes, it's commonly known that that time is much more on the rainy side than the Summer or Fall. The downside was yes, the whale watching begins around December-January... So you do kind of "miss" that as a result but you are much better off in the summer because of the weather.
Hawaii is so nice because it isn't overly humid, it has a beautiful/consistent weather pattern so yeah you want to take advantage of that as much as possible so the summer is ideal.

thank you everyone!! ANyone have hotel/resort recommendations? I was looking at the Disney one bc we will have our kids with us and since it is relatively new thought it would be a good option. But I am open to other resorts!

Maui - The Grand Wailea.
Especially with children. The pools there - just look at their website or any pics online. They have slides and a WATER ELEVATOR - the only one like it in the world. It is absolutely amazing.
Best hotel I ever stayed at.
We also loved Kauai - The Grand Hyatt.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu was nice too but if I could do it over I would skip Oahu and do the Big Island instead. Oahu is like NYC on a beach - it's just OK.
