New backpacks each year?
Ok.... so totally silly question. Do you reuse the backpack each year till it's just unusable or buy a new one each year?
DS1 is going into 1st grade. His backpack was destroyed from kindergarten, but his enrichment backpack we used not too often is still in good shape. I feel like maybe bc it's his first year in elementary I'd get him a new one. LOL!
For DS2 who's in preschool he will probably use the same Cars backpack we had a while. Only thing he had in it was extra "accident" clothes and come home with art projects.
What do you do each school year? New or reuse? Backpacks aren't that expensive anyway, but debating if it's worth taking him to TRU to pick one out.

I got my kids ll bean backpacks and they look brand new. It is my son's 4th year using his and will be my daughter's 2nd year using hers. I had one that I used from 7th grade until I graduated college.

My boys are still into the character backpacks so we have been doing new ones each year. They are going into 1st and 2nd.

We get new ones each year. The ones from the previous year bc they are in such good condition, we donate with a bunch of school supplies to the local school, and they give them to those in need.

I think that's the plan for us too. Thanks! I like the idea of donating. The character ones at the stores aren't expensive either. Plus it's fun to go to the store and have them pick a new one out.

My son's Lands End backpack from K has his initials and a hockey thing embroidered on it.
It's in perfect condition, his initials haven't changed   and he's still very into the hockey thing .......so, I don't see any reason to change it.

Both kids are reusing their backpacks. They're in really good condition (both from LL Bean). I don't want to keep piling up character backpacks each year. DD did ask for a new backpack, but instead we compromised. She's getting a new lunch sack instead.

I spent more money on a PB backpack last year so I didn't have to get a new one. It's in mint condition and he still loves it. So I'm reusing that & the matching lunchbox.

I used to get them new ones every year until I got them Lands End two years ago. GREAT QUALITY. The kids used them two years in a row and they could probably use them another but I ordered new because I think they'll need the bigger size this year.

This. My kids want the character ones too....even though I despise them lol I let them pick new ones out each year.

Yes. They reuse them until we need to go up to the next size. They had a cheaper one for trips to IL's house... zippers broke on both and it wasn't even daily use.

i splurged last year for DD in 1st grade and got a PB kids backpack and lunch box. She will be using it again this year. DD #2 is going to PK, so I'm not sure. She went to preschool last year and I got her a boring purple backpack from Target that was $5 and it's still in decent shape but I'm so tempted to let her pick out a fun one since she'll be going 5 full days this year.

DD's K backpack did not hold up so my mom got her a PBK one for first, with the understanding that she would have it for a couple years. She is going into 3rd and needed something bigger and the bag was pretty worn. I am hoping this one lasts through till middle school, so 3 years.

I got DS a character one at TRU for K. It barely made it through the year. I bought him a Land's End backpack, which held up really well. He'll use it again for 2nd grade. I didn't see the need to buy another one when it looks almost new.

Usually yes but last year I decided to buy a Jansport backpack for oldest son who destroys backpacks 6 months in. To my surprise this backpack held up I washed it and it looks good as new for the new school year. It's camo so he still likes it. My youngest had a character backpack I was lucky it lasted the year. He's getting a new one.

My older one has an Adidas and little one has a Children's Place camo backpack (love CP backpacks believe it or not). They are both in great shape from last year. I put them in the washing machine and they will use them again (their choice).

New backpacks each year?
Ds has a backpack from llbean in great condition. This will be his third year using it. Last year, he insisted he needed a backpack with wheels. I bought him one from PB and within a few weeks the fabric on the strap started to fray and the padding inside was falling out. I returned it and he went back to the llbean one which is still going strong.

DS was able to re-use his character backpack from kindergarten through first grade, his new one from second grade only made it through the one year. Those were regular character backpacks from K Mart or wherever.
I got him a Jansport for this year. Hopefully it lasts at least 2 years.
