Breastfeeding Poop-- Bright Green?
DS is 3 weeks old & has been having the usual mustard yellow seedy poop. Today & yesterday his poop has been weird... starting to look green in color & tonight it's been very bright green.
I read this could be from getting too much foremilk & not enough of the fatty milk. The problem is that he's a "snacker"... he only BF's for 5-10 minutes at most & only on one side (he goes at it pretty hard for those minutes but when he's done he's totally done), then pulls off & refuses to open his mouth again no matter what I do (he likes to eat every 45 minutes on average, sometimes even more often, (unless he's in a deep sleep he'll go a few hours between) ... probably because he doesn't eat enough each time).
Anything I can do??? Is this a real problem?? I don't want to go back to exclusive pumping (which I did for my older DS) if I can help it.

There's nothing wrong with green poop. I wouldn't be concerned about the whole foremilk thing unless he is hay and uncomfortable. You could try block feeding if you're concerned. Dd1 always had green and it was not an issue.

what is Block feeding?
You would continue to offer the same side for all feedings for a few hours at a time. Some he feeds frequently you could stock top the right side for 2 or 3 hours and then the left for the next 2 it 3 hours. You can look it up for better info but I know it's good if you have an oversupply. I haven't tried it myself.

DD had that a lot and I was concerned too, but she was gaining weight well. I also supplemented the first 3 months, so maybe that helped? Sorry if I didn't help, just wanted to let you know I went through the same thing.

I believe that when the poop is foamy looking is when there's a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.

I think it's caused by too much foremilk. I would wait it out another few days. Otherwise, feed from one breast for a few consecutive feedings then switch. Or pump a little before feeding although that can get annoying.

I had that with dd3. she was fine. Just made me nervous because it was different. I did end up offering one breast several times in a row before switching to see if that would help, but honestly, I don't remember whether it did! I just remember she was fine. I also felt like her poop was looser/more baby like for longer than my first two girls, but she's perfectly normal with a healthy system and appetite now, no issues.

I think a range of color from orangey/yellow to green is normal for a BF baby. If it's green and mucousy, it could be an indication of a food intolerance (typically dairy and/or soy). My LO frequently had green poops and it wasn't until around 10-11 weeks we then started seeing small amounts of blood in the poop too. He had never been fussy or seemingly uncomfortable. Turns out he was milk/soy protein intolerant and the green poops for weeks before were probably our first clue. Just something to keep in mind

I was just going to suggest this... it helps to increase the good fatty milk the baby drinks.
