Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

1st labor: 24 hrs
2nd: 6 hrs

Easily enough time to get child care organized & an epidural.

Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

This was me. My first baby took about 39 hours. My second was a little over 1 hour! I asked for an epi the minute I walked in for DC #2, but there wasn't enough time and had no choice but to go drug-free. On the flip side, my recovery with #2 was amazingly quick.

I hear the third is quicker than the second. That's what I'm afraid of!

Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

With my second, I had no time for an epidural. When I called my OB in the morning to tell them I was having contractions, they told me they were too far apart. They told me to call back when they were closer together. BUT, they never really got closer together...so I waited. Then my OB's office called me and said..."um, get in here NOW! You were already 3cm dilated last week". So, we went in and they checked me in. Everything was so slow and everyone took their time LOL. They got me in a room within 30 minutes of check in time. As soon as I got in the delivery room, I told the nurse I wanted an epidural. When they finally came to the room to administer the epi, I felt the baby coming. I just kept saying "but I NEED the epidural!" Honestly, I am so glad I didn't get it. It really wasn't so bad. Once she dropped, it was so fast! I know it's hard to feel that way now, but honestly, I wouldn't want the epi if I went for a third baby.

Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

with my first I went into labor 3 days early and asked for the epidural as soon as I got to the hospital. I was 4 cm.

for my second I was dilated and not going into labor on my own so I was induced two days after my due date. I got the epi.

you will be fine!!!! you know what labor feels like so I would not wait too long to go to the hospital if you're really worried about getting the Epi.

Good Luck!!!

My second labor was shorter but not to the point where I couldn't get an epi. Everyone is different with these things.

My 2nd I got the Epidural right when I got to the hospital I was pushing 20 minutes later. My 1st I was in labor for 18 hours and spent 4 of those hours pushing.

2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

I chose not to have an epidural for each of my pregnancies, but I always had time. When I had my second, he was born in less than 30 minutes from when I arrived at the hospital, and they still had time to give me an epidural (which I turned down). I only pushed with DS for 6 minutes and was ready to get up and run right after. You will be okay!!!

2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

Happened to me with my second.
I got there and by the time I got to a room it was too late but I tell you, I think with this 3rd pregnancy, I rather not have the epi.
when I had the epi with my 1st, I didn't know how to push properly b.c I couldn't feel anything.. it was long and awful.

the 2nd one comes out much faster, and when it was over, it was OVER!

For my 3rd, I am going to see if I can go without again.

I didn't have time for an epi with my second. I had her only a few minutes after we arrived at the hospital. I was actually terrified we wouldn't make it in time. Honestly it really wasn't bad at all and my recovery was SO SO SO much easier than my first. If your second winds up being so fast that you can't get it, you will be fine. I really wouldn't stress it. Honestly there is nothing you can do about it. I worried that my second labor would be too fast because I heard so many stories about that and it was but it was fine. Chances are you will be able get one but if for some reason you can't, don't stress. You can do it and you may wind up feeling better afterwards.

I had the same experience, exactly! It hurt like hell for a few minutes, but once it was over, it was such relief and I felt a million times better than after my first delivery, for which I was induced and had an epi.

Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

This happened to me, went to the hospital at 7am bc i thought my water broke ( i have water issues, it doesnt break, it leaks so i never can tell), contractions didn't start until a little after we got to the hospital and then around 12 they let me go home bc they were getting further apart. Got home and they jumped from 20 min apart to 8 min and really painful. We live 5 min from the hospital and by the time we got back there at 3 pm they were 2 min apart. As soon as I got into the room I felt like I needed to push and I was 10 cm and no time for epidural. I was terrified, they said I looked like a deer in headlights. Was it painful, yup BUT it was fast and A MUCH better recovery than with the epidural. My advice: do not wait to go to hospital, if I had listened to the drs saying don't come in untul you are 4 min apart my dd would have been born at home or on community dr.

Re: 2nd dc delivery..too fast for an epidural?!

My first delivery took 19 hours & a little help to get me there, so I got an epidural.

My second was just under 90 min from my 1st contraction until delivery & I didn't have time for an epidural. I panicked when they said that I couldn't get one, but honestly I'm so glad that I didn't. I felt awesome the minute he was born & I felt good that I was able to do it.
