Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
I received a call from Visa to verify some charges on my card and turns out they are fraudulent (WalMart, Subway & McDonalds) all within minutes of each other. Obviously they are canceling the card and sending me a new one, but my question is do I need to file a police report or anything? This has never happened to me before. How do these people get your credit card number anyways? And how can they make 4 charges within just a few minutes??

You don't need to do anything. That's why your cc alerted you. They get a hold of your numbers somehow and do test runs with small charges to see if they can get away with it before charging big things.
Your card is canceled and you will get a new one, but make sure anything autopay to that card is changed.

This. It happened to DH's Amex card. I took the call and thought it was a scam so I called the number on the back of the card. It was true! Someone in Hong Kong was trying to make an internet purchase in New Zealand. It was the location and foreign currency that triggered the fraud alert. In the meanwhile, Amex cancelled his card and re-issued a new one. Nothing else ever happened.

the company that they charged at recommended that i do a police report but my credit card didnt. i think it's because they have a chance of recovering the product but who knows lol

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
DH had this happen recently. We didn't file a police report. Our bank (Chase) just had us fill out an online charge dispute thing. Who the heck knows how it happened. The charges that were on DH's card were (2) $19.99 to Playstation, so we're thinking it must've been a kid. The last place he was before it happened was the supermarket, so we're "guessing" it might've been the cashier who waited on him. Sucks.

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
Happened to me last week, for the second time in five years, with my TD bank debit card.
Over $990 got taken right out of my checking within minutes. I was so upset!
TD is investigating and it takes a few weeks but they put the money in my account as a credit until the fraud is verified, which is the part that takes a few weeks. Issued me a new card. I didn't file a police report. My boyfriend is a police lieutenant and told me it's not necessary in this case.

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
No need to report it. I dealt a LOT with this at my prior job (Credit union). It's amazing how they get the card numbers, you wouldn't believe some of the stories I've heard.

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
No- happened to me and DH a few times. They just issue you a new card and will cancel out the fraudulent charges.

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
I make a lot of overseas purchases online so this happens to me at least once or twice a year. You don't have to make a police report.

Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
This happened to me a few months ago, and the credit card company told me to file a police report. I went down to the 6th precinct and was told that I needed the credit card statement showing the charges. So I went back, in rush hour traffic, for another policeman to basically laugh at me and say that he wasn't going to file a report since nothing had been truly stolen, since I was getting my money back. Someone charged 3k at 2 different home depots, and several other stores in Florida and California as well. I was really upset that he wouldn't take the report.

Re: Fraudulent Charges on Credit Card
Mine was stolen by an employee at a hotel. It was a high end conference hotel, too. It all went smoothly because my credit card company was great & the hotel management took swift action. They fired the person and I was told they initiated a local police report. I would think they had to in case someone claimed improper firing. At first I thought it was the car service I used there but it was easily traced to a very stupid employee.
