Leaving tomorrow morning and super excited. What are the must sees? Should we tour all 5 mansions or is 2 enough. We also want to do the Cliff walk. How far is the Mystic brewery from Newport? Any vineyards close by?

We did the 3 mansion tour - I think that is plenty. I think 5 is a bit too much. 2 would be fine. The cliff walk is really nice. One thing that I would highly recommend is the harbor sail boat tour at sunset. And just find a bar by the harbor to have drinks and apps that has some live music - that's my idea of a perfect afternoon.

Sorry - I have no info about the brewery or vineyards

We just went over Easter Weekend! It was such a great time :) We did the Cliff Walk and only went to Breakers which was amazing.

We did the Newport Vineyard which was great and had a ton of choices for tasting! We also did the Newport Storm Brewery which is close by. I'm not sure about the Mystic Brewery.

It was just a nice relaxing trip - just really nice to walk around the town and browse :) Have fun!

The mansions are spectacular. I would def go your them again. The best tour though was the servant life tour at the elms. Seriously so cool to see and hear about those that the rich tried to hide.

Re: Newport, RI

I posted this on a diff thread not too long ago:

We did Newport for our honeymoon and as a 1st anniversary trip. We took the ferry out of Orient Pt and it was about another hour from there to Newport. You don't have to take I-95 either, we took US1 south and saw some amazing beaches along the way! Make sure to have your EZPass to use on the bridges to Newport.

You did the right thing by booking a bed and breakfast in the heart of the historic areas.

I would recommend the Newport Mansions Experience. It allows you to visit 5 of the mansions using one ticket. Since you are going in the spring, I would recommend the Green Animals Topiary Garden. It's further out of the area from Newport, but the views from the property and the gorgeous gardens are well worth it! Make sure to go to the Breakers - their is a room made of PURE GOLD!

Do the cliff walk - make sure to wear sneakers, dress warm as the winds can be cooler and bring a camera!

I highly recommend eating at the Red Parrot Restaurant, Brick Alley Pub and the Pier Restaurant (only if its warm bc it's right on the water) - the sunsets are amazing!

Also, take a drive around Newport on ocean Ave near sunrise or sunset. The views you will get are amazing! You can pull over and walk on some of the beaches - see fisherman out, etc. Some of my best shots are from this drive. We ended up seeing a wedding at OceanCliff during our drive - just amazing!

Have an amazing trip!

I would recommend keeping your car parked at the b&b and walking to the mansions you want to see and walking to town - parking is at a premium in this city!

This was awesome and we LOVED the blueberry beer!

We are renting a home in Newport for the fourth consecutive summer in August. We absolutely love it there. One of my absolute favorite places in the world is there....Castle Hill Inn. You can have drinks on Adirondack chairs on a huge lawn in front of the water....do it at sunset. It's heaven.

We just got back and it was amazing. It has to be my favorite place yet. Can't wait to go back.

Would love to take the kids next year since I'm sure the prices right now are super high for the summer. Any recommendation on house rental or hotel that is geared more for kids.

The first night we walked around the shops and checked out some restaurants. Made dinner reservations at Mooring and it was divine. The next morning we did the cliffwalk and visited the Breakers and Marble Mansion. Had lunch at Red Parrot. Then we bar hopped a few other Irish pubs and ended at Midtown Oyster Bar for Oysters and more drinks. Went back to our BBB and took a long needed nap. And we woke up and headed out, it was too late and most restaurants were losing their kitchen. It was only about 10pm but they weren't taking any more customers. We ended up at an Irish Pub and ate late dinner. I was amazed at how safe it was to walk around late at night. Sunday we drove around Ocean Drive and were amazed at all the beautiful houses and how scenic everything was. The view were incredible. Absolute breathtaking. Can't wait to go back. We have a list of things we want to do for our next trip there..lol

Quick follow-up question: is it a lot of walking? What is the cliff walk? is it steep and do you have to walk to get up there, or do you drive, park, then walk along the cliff?
