Gift for boss's retirement from the department
My boss is retiring, after 32 years at the same company, in a department head position. There is going to be a big retirement dinner, and he will receive a gift from the organization. But those of us in his immediate department who worked with him day in and day out would like to get him something. Any ideas, other than something engraved from Things Remembered (which is one of the possibilites).

Gift for boss's retirement from the department
after 32 years I assume most people know him well enough to know his likes and dislikes. Perhaps he has a hobby, golf, bowling etc. If so a gift card to his favorite pro shop, a 3 year magazine subscriptions, a gift cert to dinner at a nice place
Is he taking a big trip to celebrate? a donation to the trip.

Have you thought about putting on a skit for him or having people do a special toast for him? We did this for my boss when he left and he loved it.
Sometimes it's not always the gift but the heatfelt meaning.
