Re: Should I delete the review?

Leave it

I feel bad for her that life happens.. but she had the choice to simply tell you she couldn't get it to you as promised. There was no reason to lie.

ETA: I have had so many issues with Etsy sellers. I have heard a ton of sob stories that I dont even believe half of them anymore. I still give them the benefit of the doubt and if they are honest with me then all is well.

If the seller had been upfront when she was initially asked ("I'm so sorry, my mom's been sick, I will refund your money immediately") then I might be inclined to agree, but it's the fact that she lied that bothers me.

absolutely agree.

It's not that the seller flaked on shipping, that can happen.

She lied to try and cover up her mistake, now it's biting her in the arse.

Too bad. We have all had isht happen in our lives.

The review should stand as it is an accurate reflection of what occurred.

Leave it. Very similar situation with Etsy. I had paid extra and ordered DS a long sleeve shirt. Even emailed back and forth with the vendor a few times about the long sleeves and what size to order. The order came late and was short sleeves. She only wanted to refund me $1!!!! Or, she said I could ship it back to her at my expense and she would refund me for the shirt but not shipping...so I would've paid twice for shipping, which was essentially the cost of the shirt to begin with! She admitted it was her mistake but told me her mom was having surgery so she was distracted.

I left her a negative, but truthful review, and she then gave me some sob story about how she has twins and one is special needs. She begged me to take down my review. Meantime, I Googled her address since it was the return address and she lived in a $1million+ mansion in NJ. I disputed the purchase with Etsy and got a full refund.

Re: Should I delete the review?

I wouldn't delete it, but I would include the fact that she refunded your money if you haven't already.

I also loathe Etsy - the majority of them are not real business people - they're crafting or whatever on the side making some extra money - which is great ..........but they're NOT running a full on business.

Should I delete the review?

You're allowed to feel guilty, but remember you didn't lie. I can see if your review contained a lie and you felt somewhat guilty, but you told the truth, and because she chose to lie, the consequences are hers.
You weren't mean or harsh in your review, just factual. It may help her improve her customer service and prevent this from happening to someone else.

Should I delete the review?

Definitely leave it.

ETA: If she was so concerned about making money, her business and supporting her family she would not have lied. I know life happens sometimes but be honest...no reason to lie.

Can you add that she gave you a full refund? I mean I dont think you should change it, because maybe she does this all the time and guilts people to take it down. If its a one-off thing that will be reflected in her feedback and buyers will see that its not the norm.

Re: Should I delete the review?

Please Leave it.

Got into a similar situation on etsy myself and I went back and forth with a vendor. The vendor just shrugged and blamed it on UPS when an item I ordered like- a month in advance- didn't come on time for a birthday party. I consider that part of the vendors responsibility when she knows the date I need it by. She should help track as I was emailing her everyday asking where this was.

She, also, had taken a long time to ship out.

I was left "holding the bag" and had to go out and buy another gift for this party. She wouldn't help me out at all. Nothing!

So I left a negative review. I think she is an unethical, uncaring business person. She argued "it wasn't her, it was ups" but that is not the point. The way she behaved is not small business and helping a customer; building a customer.

Leave it, especially if you mentioned the refund. I usually take all reviews with a grain of salt. With the mention of the refund, I would still use that seller. I don't think you are ruining her business by leaving a negative review, just allowing someone to make an informed decision about using her. It might make her a better seller in the future.

Should I delete the review?

For those that said the mom was sick so just delete it - how the heck do you know that for sure? She lied about sending the item in the first place....soooo who's to say she didn't lie about the mom being sick? This could be the same stock excuse she gives people when she is irresponsible and forgetful.

Sorry but if she already lied, I doubt she's even telling the truth about the mom. Leave the review.

I would leave it. My DH has his own business and takes his reviews as they come. If you choose to behave a certain way in business you have to deal with the consequences.

She will think 2x next time she lies in business

I totally agree.

Exactly! Life happens, but you don't lie. You deal with it, especially if you are in business. She had options. She chose to lie.

I left a bad review on Trip Advisor for a NYC hotel recently because our room was appallingly dirty. Dirty sheets with somebody else's hairs in them, a dirty toilet, etc. I posted pictures of each problem. The manager called me, apologized, canceled the charge for the night, etc. I thanked him for his apology and canceling the charge, but told him I would not take down the review because people needed to know what had happened.

Why? Because I had seen another review of the hotel where the same thing had happened when I was thinking about staying there. I had decided it was a one time mistake as most other reviews were glowing and booked a room anyway. I was wrong. It seems to be a pattern at his hotel.

People need to know how a business operates in order to decide to use it or not. Whether a hotel, or a vendor on Etsy.
Truthful reviews give them that insight.

I agree as well. She should have been up front with you if she was unable to get the package shipped out. I think it's important for others to read your experience and decide for themselves if they want to do business with this vendor. As a potential customer of hers, I would like to know about this before I consider doing business.

Re: Should I delete the review?

The beauty of the internet is the ability to make purchase decisions based on *honest* reviews. As long as your review is truthful, leave it up and you have nothing to feel guilty about. She lied about having shipped the item in the first place. Who's to say she's not lying about the sick mother excuse she gave you? If she was so concerned about supporting her kids (if she even has any) she should've done right by her customer. Surely, many of her customers also work hard to financially support their kids and don't need to be wasting time and money on this flake who can't fulfill her promises to customers and straight up lies to them. They can read the review and decide for themselves if they still want to do business with her. Maybe this will help her run a more honest business/hobby.

Re: Should I delete the review?

I sell on Etsy and I think you should leave it. Like a pp said, the good reviews help my business so I make sure I do what I promise. If it were me, I'd have been honest and explained the situation right away, even offered a free item or decent discount on a future order for your trouble. It's tough because you're clearly a nice person and she's making you feel bad, but by being dishonest about the shipment and now guilting you, that's not the way to run a business and it makes me think this wasn't the first time she's done something like this, and may do it again.

This is exactly my thoughts. Initially I just looked at the star rating she had which was 4.5 stars. After she started bothering me to take down the review, I went and started reading some. It seems as though I'm not the only one she has done this to. I wrote get back and told her my review was honest and it was going to stay up. Now I wonder how many other negative reviews she may have gotten that she guilted people into removing. As far as I'm concerned, she is a shady seller.

Leave it. She should not have lied about the shipping. If she had told you then, I would be more forgiving. I do agree with others that you should state you got a full refund.

eh, I don't think I would believe that there was an emergency to begin with. That's the problem, once you lie you can't expect people to believe anything else. I usually forgive and forget but you already wrote it so would leave it.

Does she have other negative reviews similar to your situation? If it seemed to be a pattern then I would keep the review. Unless she asks everyone to delete them (hmmmm? )

I would consider removing it if it seemed to be a one time fluke based on her mom having surgery, etc. If it seemed that there were no other negative reviews.
