Good age for Disney?

What is the 'ideal' or best age to take the plunge and go to Disney?

Re: Good age for Disney?

We are going this fall, DD will have just turned 6 and our DS will be 19 months. I know my DD is going to flip with excitement and likely make some lifelong memories. While my DS won't remember going, he's going to have an awesome time seeing all of his favorite characters from Disney Jr.

I think Disney can be enjoyed at any age but obviously until they are older, they won't remember much about the trip.

I think it depends on the kid, but in general I would say between 4-6 is great for a first visit.

We went for my DD's 4th birthday - she loved it. Still remembers it and can't wait to go back. My 2.5 year old ( who decided a few weeks before the trip to turn into a terrible 2's monster) was miserable and most photos of her are of her crying :(
Of course I'm sure some 2.5 year olds go and love it and are great. But she doesn't remember any of it and dealing with the melt downs wasn't my vision of the happiest place on earth Chat Icon

Any age is good for Disney! You will get a lot of naysayers that say they wouldn't take a baby/toddler, and it's a "waste" since they won't they remember, but I don't buy into that ;)

Good Point. We first took DS1 when he was 22 months! It was an amazing vacation. He was great, loved it! We went again when he was just shy of 3, again it was perfect vacation with him! Then when he was 5 and DS2 was 24 months, we went and DS2 was really overwhelmed, and it was just way too much for him, He had many meltdowns!

If I had to choose I would say btw 4-6 is an ideal age for a first visit!

Re: Good age for Disney?

our boys were 2 and 4 the first time - and we went again this past year (3 and 5)

I think it's great at any age, to be honest, as long as yoiu don't force 100 things on them at one time.
I didn't jam pack our days full of scheduled "MUST DO THIS NOW" things - we went to the park for a few hours, came back to the hotel - napped, hung out at the pool etc. That way we avoided miserable, cranky kids having meltdowns - it's no fun when you're stressed out trying to make a lunch reservation and all your kid really WANTS to do is ride the little mermaid - KWIM?

Unfortunately, the whole process of Disney lately has taken any sort of 'on a whim' out of the whole vacation. You do have to have things planned out - which I don't love. and I find to be disappointing. - But the kids still love it, the place is immaculate and run perfectly -
I personally think anyone, at any age can have a great time there -

I'd go even w/o the kids! Not b/c I'm such a Disney freak, but b/c everything there is 'easy' - EXPENSIVE as hell, but easy and convenient and at your fingertips

Re: Good age for Disney?

If you are only going once and are never going back then I'd say 5 or 6. If you plan to take multiple trips then go whenever. There's no perfect age. They will enjoy it differently at each age. We took DS1 at 10 months, and we just went again when DS1 was almost 3 and DS2 was 6 months. We're hoping to go back next year when they'll be 4.5 and 2.

Re: Good age for Disney?

My DD was 3.5 and I think it was ideal. Would be good to go back now at around 6.

Good age for Disney?

My DD was almost 3 and it was perfect. DH and I are not Disney people but we were in awe of how happy and excited our daughter was. We didn't try to do too much and took plenty of time to rest. I hope to go back next summer when she is 5.5, our baby will be 1.

Any age is good but I wanted to wait until they could remember it.

So for me, 4 & up.

I agree. My brother lives in Cali so we've been to Disneyland twice for a day trip but we are taking our first real Disneyworld trip in a few weeks. The kids are 9&6.

My kids were 4.5 and 21 months and they had the time of their lives! They may not remember anything later but we have pics to show them and DH and i have wonderful memories. We plan on going as often as our bank account allows lol!

Good age for Disney?

We went just before DS turned 4. I wanted to wait until he was toilet trained (without accidents) and a little more independent. He still talks about going, so I know he remembers the trip :)

Re: Good age for Disney?

I took my DS & DD at 6 and 4 earlier this year and thought they were the perfect ages for it. I was just there with my bf's nephew for his 2nd bday and it was pretty much lost on him but we sure had fun watching his reaction to things :) So I say it depends... bf's nephew will be back frequently bc they have a timeshare so they didnt care if it was lost on him. If this is a one time trip (at least for a while), I'd wait til 4.

I agree...although I just went and found my 9 and 7 year olds weren't as into it and a lot of the rides were too young for them. My 3.5 year old was in her glory! They still has a good time and maybe because we have been a bunch but I saw some of the magic wearing away. Chat Icon

I agree.

We're going back for the second time (well, we went for a day when DS 1 was a tiny infant but, I'm not counting that) and people are telling me that they are too young and won't remember. My older guy (almost 5) has been telling his 2 1/2 year old brother all of the cool things that we saw 2 years ago so I think it's fine.

And kids under 3 are free Chat Icon
