NICU moms, Donor breast milk?
Anyone have any experience or knowledge about using donor breast milk?
My son was born 8 weeks premature. He is in NICU.
I am pumping. But at the rate they are increasing his feedings, he will surpass my supply.
The doctors mentioned using donated breast milk. They said formula wouldn't be the best option. I have not had time to research all this yet.
It apparently goes thru rigorous testing and is ultra pasteurized.
Any one have any experience with this?

I'm a NICU nurse (not on LI anymore, moved OOS a few years ago). We use donor milk where I work, it is tested like donated blood is tested, as well as pasteurized, like you said. Preemie babies tolerate it very well, much better than formula most of the time. If I had a NICU baby, I would agree to donor milk in a heartbeat.

Do you have to pay for it OOP? I know donor milk (from a milk bank) is VERY expensive. But I'm note sure it if works differently for a NICU vs a person purchasing it privately.
