Booster seat-latch or no latch
Time to get our 5 year old DD a high back car booster. I'm trying to figure out if it's a pro or con to purchase one with a latch system??
Any feedback would we great!! Thanks

The only benefit to latch is so the seat doesn't become a projectile. You can't use the latch with a child in the seat beyond a certain weight (look at your car manual) and it's usually lower than what most kids who sit in a booster are.

I got it. I think it is much safer than the regular boosters. The regular boosters are only held in by the red piece the shoulder harness threads through. When it is a bottom only they could easily go flying if the child isn't in it. The weight with latch is irrelevant. That only applies to convertibles and infant seats. The seatbelt is what holds the child not the latch. I just find it fit tighter and is a bit safer but you don't "need" it. I just prefer it for those reasons.

We have it and both the seat and our car permitted it to 100 lbs.

The latch rules do not apply to boosters bc they are not holding the child only the seat. They only apply for car seats that hold the child (think 5 point or infant seats). The seatbelt holds the child in the case of boosters. The latch is mainly to keep them from injuring others when not in use (And I find it keeps the seats from shifting).

latch. Keeps it in place, especially if a child isn't in it. easy to take in and out with the latch. And latch weight do not apply when only being used to anchor a booster that does not even require being latched in the first place

I too prefer it with the latch. So it doesn't go flying around when I'm in the car alone, and I felt like it would just keep it straighter, in the right position.

We have a similar seat...the graco affix. I almost got yours but my girls didn't find it as comfortable.

I use it in my dh's car so that we don't have to buckle the seats in when my girls aren't in the car. It was already on our seat (3 in 1) but having it, I would buy another booster seat with it for ease of use when they aren't in the car.

Not for a high back booster, only for 5 point harness seats.

Many belt positioning booster seats now come with LATCH, and several combination seats allow LATCH to be used when the seat is in booster mode. This is purely a convenience feature that keeps the booster from flying into other occupants if the vehicle is in a crash when the child is not in the seat. The seat belt is restraining the child, LATCH is just securing the booster, so weight limits do not apply.

LATCH rules don't apply to belt positioning boosters which allow for LATCH because the seat belt is doing the work, the LATCH is primarily there to secure the seat from being a projectile ecause most people forget to belt in the bpb when not in use.
LATCH used when using a Combination seat (also called a harnessed booster by some) in harness mode follows LATCH rules regarding lower anchors, but the top tether should always be used. When used in belt positioning booster mode, you must read the manual to see if LATCH is allowed in that mode, and the top tether should not be used, only the lower anchors
