EI question

I called an EI vendor in Queens to have DS evaluated for speech delay. She is coming tomorrow to have some paperwork filled out and said that she would need my insurance information. Is this normal? I thought if DS qualifies, the service is paid by NYC? I asked her why, and I didn't really understand her explanation (English was not her first language). She said that she was the service coordinator.

EI question

Yes, it's normal. They will bill your insurance and then NYC will pick up the balance. You will pay absolutely nothing, not even a copay.

EI question

Yes that's normal. I was told that they try to get any payment they can from insurance but you won't be responsible for any remaining balance.

Re: EI question

Yes, normal. They offset the cost by having the inso co pay some if you have ins.

Yes, that's what I've been hearing. I am not even sure he will qualify, but the ped. suggested an evaluation, so I figured I might as well.

The above posters are correct. They will try and have your insurance company pay the customary amount and then the state will pick up the rest of the tab. They will have you fill out a few insurance forms. One of the forms is for non regulated insurance company's. Make sure you check the box that states you do not wish to let the State bill your insurance if you are non regulated. If your insurance isn't NY regulated you can actually be billed. The State has made it easy to ensure that you still won't have to pay by signing that form.
