Failed one hour miserably

I'm so pissed off. After everything I have dealt with with getting pregnant, I was hoping not to have to deal with this bull shit.
Going for the four hour test on Saturday.
The OBGYN was pretty convinced I will fail that too, and will need to do the finger prick four times a day and possibly use insulin.

I'll do whatever it takes, but I hate this shit.

Praying that my 24 week growth scan tomorrow is normal. Bc I am on blood thinning shots, I need to go every four week to check that the baby isn't growing too slowly.
With GD, doesn't the baby grow bigger?!

Off to search google the rest of the night :(

Re: Failed one hour miserably

so sorry my friend Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon With GD they do fear that the baby will be big...but there are also other issue of concern in that the baby's blood sugar could rebound super low at birth if the mother's sugars were consistently high throughout pregnancy. This is a large reason why they try to put you on a specific diet and make you neurotic about maintaining your sugars... a severe rebound at birth could cause long term effects on the baby so they are monitored pretty closely a birth...

Good luck on the 4 hour.... I have a feeling i'm going to be right there with you in 8 weeks... didn't have it with my DS, but I just have a bad feeling about these ones!!

Failed one hour miserably

If you do have GD and are able to maintain it either with diet, insulin, medication, or any combination of the above, your baby can and will likely be perfectly healthy. I was diagnosed with GD at 13w, ended up on Metformin towards the end, and DD was and is perfect! She was 7lb5oz when I delivered at 39w and at 12 weeks old is still a peanut!

I wonder if simply going off the metfromin could have caused a rebound effect. Don't freak out. GD is not crazy, it might just mean going back on the metformin and regulating diet. You are almost there!!!

Re: Failed one hour miserably

I had the same disappointment when I failed my 1 hr. I too went through infertility treatments to get pregnant, was on crazy amounts of meds the first trimester, and STILL take lovenox shots every day. When I failed the 1 hr, I was like "why me? why can't just one thing be easy?"

But please try not to get too riled up. You still have a chance at passing the 3 hr. The worse thing to do is google! I'm sending good vibes your way. Hang in there, this too shall pass. Chat Icon

Possibly b/c it regulates blood sugar and could have altered your results.

Re: Failed one hour miserably

You have another chance with the 3 hour, Mich!
Talk to your Dr about the metformin and the fact that you stopped using it before the test. Your blood sugar may just be regulating itself and the test caught that.

Re: Failed one hour miserably

I'm sorry you are so upset. I have GD this time around and it's my 3rd pregnancy, I also had GD with my 1st. My doctor called me after my 1 hour and since I failed by a lot he said it was likely that I'd fail the 3 hour which I did. Once you meet with a nutritionist and get used to the diet it isn't terrible. What I focus on is the baby and how I need to keep my sugars under control to be healthy for her. When I had GD with my 1st I went into preterm labor so I'm praying this time around is different, I have 7 weeks left to go.

While this isn't ideal, it's better to know and to take care of it so both you and your LO stay healthy. STAY OFF GOOGLE!! You'll just make yourself crazier and more upset. This is just a drop in the bucket compared to everything else.

Good luck with the 3 hour. At least they let you take it. With my first, I failed the 1 hour by a lot so they diagnosed me without taking the 3 hour. This pregnancy, I passed the 1 hour.
