Need some advice

We are looking to sell our home within the year. We had some ice damming over the winter which caused damage to the kids rooms. Insurance finally came out and we can begin repairs next week. My kids are just shy of 10 (dd) and 8(ds). The dilemma is really what color to paint my dd's room. She loved Benjamin Moore's Coral Essence which is a pretty bold pink/coral color. My gut is telling me to do a neutral color in her room to sell it. She currently has zebra bedding in there which she loves. What would you do?

What about painting it a neutral color and letting her pick out some fun wall decals? I would definitely do something more neutral or at least muted but it's tough on a kid and to them a year is a lifetime. I think she's old enough to understand though.

Neutral is usually better, but with kids' rooms, it matters less. People tend to not be bothered by -- they even like -- cutely decorated little boys and girls rooms with bright colors, themes, etc., especially if you live in an area that will likely attract families with young children. It's just paint, and fresh paint is always nice. But most people will want to choose their own colors anyway when they move in.

I would let the kids choose their own colors, as long as they don't go too crazy (rainbow walls or something!) and make sure their rooms are clean and decluttered. Well maintained and fresh and clean is more important than color schemes and decorating choices, IMO.

I would keep common living areas and larger spaces more neutral in terms if color palette, though.

we just purchased a home, and when we were looking i honestly liked seeing kids rooms decorated...it helped give me ideas and visualize having my kids in that space. im not sure if thats the norm or not but for me i would say pick whatever colors your kids want.

I say go with the Pink. I like to visualize too. I think it makes it more of a Home than a house to see personal touches.

If you are looking to sell then you must paint "neutral".

You will not be doing yourself ANY favors by doing it in a coral color.

If it's bought by a family with kids I think they will paint anyway to be the color the kid wants. So I can't see the color being a deal breaker.

Eh some of the paint colors in our house were hideous. We repainted everything. Some rooms even have similar colors in them, just a fresh coat. Paint is cheap.

Bold colors may make it difficult for a buyer to visualize themselves living in the space. I would stick to neutrals or at least use the coral as an accent wall with a complementary neutral on the other three walls.

Paint usually isn't a deal breaker, it's just better presentation of the house....neutral colors usually are better for people/buyers that don't visualize well. A lot of people like to walk into a house and say this is perfect I don't want to do a thing and yes the colors can play a big role, but most people know that paint isn't a big expense and if they do have kids, e.g. if you have a girls room and they have a boy they'll know they'll have to paint it's really not a big deal in the end! Good luck in the sales process!

I agree with neutral as well. I rented an apt in NYC years ago that literally had every wall a different color. It was hideous and I had a hard time seeing past the walls. I almost walked away, but my agent convinced me. It turned out to be a huge, great apt, but I didn't actually "see" it until it was painted back to white.
