I'm curious what were some warning signs that caused you to take your child to the eye doctor?

Re: ? for parents of toddlers with glasses

We took our son to eye dr because he kept rubbing his right eye and it was tearing.also family history of cornea disease so we want to be on top of it.
turns out nothing appears to be wrong at this time. dr said it was a dry cold winter and thats likely the cause.

we like dr kronwith. The worst part is the drops to dilate the eye but he is so quick and distracts them pretty well.

Did dr kronwith dilate your sins eyes in the first appt? I took my son 2 weeks ago and all he did was look in his eyes quickly, have him watch a tv and said he's fine come back in 3 months and I'll be able to tell better once we dilate his eyes. I was pretty unhappy about the visit and am planning on finding another ophthalmologist.

I noticed that there was a slight eye turn of one eye in pictures. Some other signs could be excessive rubbing &/or blinking, complaints about headaches, and squinting.

I take all three of my kids to Dr. Levi at Long Island pediatric opthamology and strabismis in Plainview. They have a port Jefferson office too.

Eta: I've never heard of not dialating their eyes on the first visit. There's no other accurate way to examine them. My younger DD had her exam at 13.5 months and they even did hers.

my dd would blink a lot - we honestly didnt even think too much into it bc she was still so young. When my ped did an eye exam he saw she had astigmatism and told us to bring her to an opthamologist.

We also use Long Island pediatric opthamology but the port jeff office. and they did dialate her eyes on first visit. they actually spent a lot of time with her, did a bunch of different exams and took pictures of her eyes.

Wow! now i am really p!ssed! DS is 3 and i figured he would have dilated the eyes while we were there the first time. He's been to kronwith before when he was a baby every few months for the 1st year of his life and they dilated his eyes every time. So that's the only reason i went there because he has a history there. I'm thinking that i will contact this LI pediatric opthamology and get his eyes really checked out. This guy literally looked in his eyes quickly, made him watch TV for a few seconds and called it a day.

He is the worst child doctor ever. Ever. No bedside manner whatsoever. We go to Doyle in rvc and couldn't be happier.

My youngest just got glasses because her pre k teacher noticed that she was looking closely at paper to see what she was doing. It was an easy experience as she is 4 and they were very patient with her. I cannot state how much I hate kronwith and his "staff"

I have to say, his staff was pretty good. At least the lady behind the counter was super nice. But you are 1000% right about his bedside manner. He actually did give DS a paper to look at and asked him what the stick figure pictures were. You could see he was getting frustrated because DS would not tell him. Ummm...Your a stranger he's not going to speak to you on command! He gave DS about 10 seconds to look at the paper and tell him what the pics were before taking it away and starting the rest of the 5 minute "exam". I wish i knew better and now i am pissed because we pay out of pocket the first 1500 of our medical so this is going towards that 1500.

PS- SOOOOO sorry to the OP that i hijacked your post Chat Icon

Thanks for all the replies. My DD is 2.5. Sometimes I notice she will squint one eye and tilt her head, but I can't tell if it is for vision purposes or she just thinks it's a funny face. She only does it when you are playing with her, not when watching tv or anything. She also likes to cross her eyes, which totally freaks me out since I had surgery at 16 for strabismus. But, she does it on purpose, it doesn't just happen when she is looking at something like mine did.

She looks at books and colors at the proper distance from the page.

Did you all start with a consult with your pediatrician or go right to a specialist?

Yes he went when 3 months (recommended because pre mature) and again recently 2 years old and both times dilated eyes, sorry to hear others bad experiences
