Any good resources or free help out there? I know we are all supposed to be ecstatic, but if you are far from what free resources (not through insurance) are there?

I don't know of any off hand but I would ask at your OB's office. They should be able to direct you the appropriate resources. Good Luck

theres usually support groups or therapists. you ob can point you in the right direction. I went through prenatal depression really bad, it was an awful time and I was always crying and I saw a therapist I saw before I got pregnant but if this is not the case, your OB should have local resources.

Do you belong to a church/temple? I would start there. Or call 211 United Way of Long Island.

OB or church/temple as PPs said. Did you search online for a local support group too? It is a tough time - hang in there!

Call your OB in the morning, he/she will have resources for you. The hospital you gave birth in might also have a support group, you can call the Maternity floor.

I have been dealing with prenatal depression for this entire pregnancy (38 weeks). In the beginning, I chalked it up to hormones, but I finally realized something was very wrong in December. I wasn't sleeping, wasn't eating, I could barely take care of my DD. I would cry all day, every day and I would tell DH every night that I didn't want to wake up the next morning. I felt like getting ready to have a baby was a chore, rather than enjoyable and exciting.
I called my OB at 9am and he had me come in at noon. I started Zoloft that day and by day 5 on it, I was a completely different person. We have decided that I'll remain on medication for at least 6 months post partum. My OB did tell me that he could suggest someone to talk to.
