Might be a stupid gardening question
I have a nice area at the house I can do some gardening, and enjoy doing it.
As far as bulbs are concerned (tulips..and anything else with a "bulb")...
...do they HAVE to be planed at the end of the year to bloom during the summer???? I kow that whole "first frost stuff". But why would I plant bulbs in November to bloom in April?
And the logical answer is because you cant garden in March when the ground is frozen.
But cant I plant them in late April too????
Is it against "gardeners law" (my own made up term) to plant a bulb type plant in April or May??

You can't plant the bulbs in the sprint--the won't bloom. You can plant an already in bloom plant though.
It depends on the type of tulip & the weather, but late April might be a little late in the season for them & they might die back quickly.

They will grow back providing that no bunny or squirrel digs them up.
ETA: I used to plant tulips and the bulbs got eaten each winter by the bunny and squirrels. I planted daffodils and they didn't eat those bulbs.

I planted gladiolus in the spring and they bloom late May. They come back every year too. I've had it for 3 years now.

Bulbs need the cold of the winter then the warming to start blooming.
You can plant forced bulbs (those that are already blooming) and they might come back the following year.
Put some chicken wire over the bulbs then cover with dirt. Keeps the squirrels from digging them up and the leaves and stems grow thru.
Squirrels in my yard wait for the crocus to start blooming, then they pull the flower out.
Same thing with tulips - they snap the flower head off.
Ground pepper seems to work, but has to be reapplied after watering or rain.
Daffodils are safe bulbs - no one eats them.

Might be a stupid gardening question
Spring blooming bulbs need to be planted in the fall so they can sit dormant in the cold ground before blooming.
You can plant summer blooming bulbs in the late spring or early summer-don't do too early or the cold will kill them. We've had success with dahlias, gladiolus and some lilies.

Now I get it. They NEED the cold to be dormant. I loved the fact That I had SOMETHING growing every year in my old place in April.
I will plant in October next year, thank you for the education.
