Rotovirus vaccine reaction
DD is 2 months and had a rotovirus vaccine given to her today.
She was also prescribed Zantac for acid reflux. She cries a lot after her feelings for some time (anywhere from one-two hours) and has a hard time burping and releasing gas.
She had 4 ounces at noon and around 1:15 was crying, so I gave her a dose of Zantac. It was the first time she ever had it.
At 230 she woke up hysterical crying, body locked and screaming bloody murder in between sobs. She threw up so hard that it also came through her nose. It took Almost 2 hours after that to calm her down.
I read online that the rotovirus vaccine can trigger acid reflux and make it even worse then it was before the vaccine. I couldn't find anything about Zantac and throwing up so I'm not sure if that caused her to vomit like that or the vaccine - combined with her screaming and gasping all that air.
Anybody else dc have any side effects from the vaccine? Anyone whose do had AR and had any reaction?

Wow so sorry! :( poor baby!! My first son was fine but my second just had diarrhea for a week!

I don't know about the vaccine but as for the zantac you should try to give the doses at least a half hour before a bottle for it to work the best.
Poor baby, hopefully she's feeling better now!!

My daughter didn't have a reaction but they told us she could get diarrhea or a slight fever I believe.

My ds had this shot recently and I believe it has affected him. His poop has mucous and is often green. I looked it up online as well, and it seemed to be a common reaction. I won't be continuing with the 2nd and 3rd dose for this reason.

The zantac should be given before feedings. And the stuff tastes nasty so that could be the reason she got sick.. My son had GERD and never had an issue with any of his rotovirus vaccines... Maybe give some tylenol for pain..

The only time DD ever projectile vomited was after her first dose of Rotavirus.
She did not have any reaction to subsequent doses.

Thanks everyone!
She slept pretty much until 3 am this morning after I managed to calm her down yesterday afternoon.
She seems ok so far today but the day isn't over so I'm waiting for the screaming and sobbing to start  I really hate acid reflux and am a bit annoyed the dr didn't mention the rotovirus vaccine will make AR worse. This wasn't my regular dr. that we saw yesterday.

When DD had the rotavirus vaccine her reflux got worse afterwards. I couldn't find anything saying the vaccine could cause that and my ped didn't seem to agree. But I swear the vaccine made it worse! She was only on Maalox at the time so we switched her to Zantac. I hope your dd feels better!
