You could just leave right? I'm sorry but I feel bad for homeless people in this cold. Where are they going to go. You have a warm house to go to.

yeah, your right again. I should have left. It was my faultChat Icon
Oh and your right, I'm entitled bc I have a home.

But I do stand by my original experience - which is entirely my own. I've seen non homeless people act downright insane - on the roads, in stores, in parking lots. I've seen customers threaten employees, throw fits, hell - one woman threatened to kill me once - and she was mad I walked too slowly (it was icey) in front of her car. My own personal encounters with homeless in my community has been uneventful. I'm more frightened of the unruly teens at the mall on a Saturday night Chat Icon - fights and security guards on segways Chat Icon

I guess no one here grew up in the city lol. Saw plenty of drunk homeless people in the subway, mcdonalds, everywhere. Guess it doesn't faze me. I always felt bad for them as a little girl and still do. Especially in this cold.

I feel bad for the homeless, I really do, but I would've grabbed my kids and left. Sounds scary. Sorry you and the babies had to endure that.

I'd also call corporate office and let them know what happened.

i like that you actually understood EXACTLY what my post says. I gave a scene that anyone would have thought was nuts but instead it was turned into a anti homeless ploy. But for me it's like whatever. Chat Icon

has nothing to do with city mouse/country mouse. We all read. Just bc you live in the city doesn't make you more passionate to the homeless.

Re: 3 ring circus at McDonald's tonite

I know that there are many wackos out there in public who do annoying and sometimes scary things. In my retail jobs, I have met all kinds.

That being said, the scenario OP described would upset me. I have compassion for the homeless: my godfather spent the last 15 years of his (alcoholic) life living on the streets of Long Beach. My own brother, who suffers from mental illness and addiction, has been homeless at some points in his life.

However, a drunk, passed out person next to a play area where my sons are would bother me. Intoxicated people(homeless or otherwise) can do scary, unpredictable things.

thank you! And top it off with a loud man screaming and the other homeless man screaming his order with the big mouth...it was nuts. Hence, McDonald's was a 3 ring circus.

Re: 3 ring circus at McDonald's tonite

I would have left immediately when seeing the drunk man in there. I "grew up in the city" and saw so many things that I NOW KNOW better and I get out of senarios like that FAST. Things like that scare me b/c really bad things can happen when you combine various factors. Nothing more important than our safety, homeless or not. I wouldn't expect the staff would do much, as they are probably afraid for their own safety too.

In fact, last year we were in an ice cream place and a drunk man (not homeless) started fighting with the staff. He had his preteen sons with him. I practically ran out of there with my DD. I always think anything can happen and I am super vigilant now with my DD and our safety. Crazy shit can happen anywhere.

The homeless guys wouldn't bother me. The crazy guy shooting his mouth off and the staff not doing anything would.

Agreed!

right!!! A drunk man laying across a table passed out near a child play place wouldn't bother anyone. Right Chat Icon welcome to lifChat Icon

I apologize. I didn't realize you said drunk. My fault. I agree with you on that. And the staff should've def done something!

Lol I didn't realize they were drunk either. I would be uncomfortable for that. I would of left since the staff didn't seem to care.

Very sorry you and your children had to experience that and were frightened.

probably should have but I have myself to support and my 2 kids. Thank god for the loudmouth, right? He is the hero of the story, no? He really got a bad rap when technically he paid for everyone's food. I am nfinally seeing the devils advocate of my story. In fact tomm. I am writing mcds an apology note for even being there.

This is what I thought too. In the city id always pass the same ones for years so I always have a soft spot for them and always felt bad for them. I wrote my college application paper on the homeless even!

But agreed there is a difference between trying to keep warm and being passed out drunk. And it's obviously not appropriate for a rich guy who drives a BMW to be drunk and passed out and draped over a table.

I blame the establishment and I probably would have left if I felt threatened. And if I didn't I would have moved away and eaten my meal.

It's late and my brain is fogged. I just mean it doesn't matter if he's homeless. No one should be draped drunk and passed out over a table at any restaurant! Like who cares if he's homeless or rich, the establishment should have made him leave or called the police if they felt threatened.

You can't win! It's so easy to be judgmental from the comfort of your iPad screen. You should have left, but bought everyone food first and of course invited the drunk guy over to stay at your place so he'd have a warm bed! Lmao. Personally, I'd have been freaked out as well. It's terrible when this type of situation occurs and catches you off guard. As far as the employees are concerned, I feel bad for them as well! They were probably afraid of the confrontation and who in their right mind risks that type of potentially violent encounter for a minimally paid job? Who knows, they could have been waiting for the police to arrive to remove the drunk. This post was never a nuisance rant about the burden of dealing with the homeless. Sheesh. Sorry you had to deal with this OP.

Well wait.. Before I'm dismissed as being an idiot possibly...maybe I read wrong? it sounded like a non homeless person caused most (if not all) of the disruption?

Either way glad your safe. I personally haven't had any run ins with homeless people being disruptive. It's usually entitled assholes who aren't homeless that I have stories about! Chat Icon

Maybe he wasn't homeless but still sounds like he was off his meds.

Chat Icon

I also agree with your entitled assholes comments though.

I had some lunatic at work one day get off the elevator for their appointment, and then start screaming up and down the halls that they and their mother needed to be seen immediately because they were an attorney and they didn't need to wait. They even screamed in my face and I have ZERO to do with the department they were seeing. Maybe they were an attorney but they still needed medication for the outbursts.

At least with homeless or people you know are already mentally ill, you can be more on your guard.....

It doesn't make people more passionate if they live in the city, it just makes them more used to it. I know that I am waaaaay less concerned about a drunk homeless person on the subway then a crazy person jumping around ranting. Not that either of them are fab to be around, it's just a matter of degree I guess.

But you seem to be the only person causing drama here, no one has attacked you or anything, people are just giving their opinions and you are getting very snippy at them!

you have 2 small kids in the equation, correct? Bc it's kinda funny that you think about yourself when comparing how scary both scenarios are.
