East Islip/Sayville area?

We are looking at houses and have decided on the area from Babylon to Sayville. Any farther is too much of a commute for DH to the city. Babylon and West Islip we can't find anything in our range that's not super tiny or a complete dump, so we will most likely be going further east. I've heard East Islip and Sayville schools are both great, what about Bohemia and Oakdale? How are the neighborhoods? What about the airport? Any areas of Those towns (especially East Islip) we should stay away from?

Oakdale is Connetquot. It's pretty average and on the larger size. I would go Sayville if you could. Much better and smaller school district. Stay north of Montauk for flooding.

I lived in Oakdale for over 10 years. My son graduated from connetquot high school, if you have questios about the district let me know. We lived just north of montauk hwy with no risk of flooding. I love how easy it is to get places from there, in general it's a very nice middle class area.
My good friend just bought in east islip after looking for over a year. She's in the country village section. Her kids are babies so no info about the schools but she loves her neighborhood!

We live in East Islip and love it. We don't have kids but friends of ours have children in the SD (ranging from 2nd grade to 12th grade) and all have good things to say about the SD. We are in the country village section also. We only wanted to be south of Montauk highway. I would definitely try to stay south of sunrise. We've been here 6 years and I'm very happy with our decision.

Sayville is awesome, great district. I would just stay away from any streets that are near the shady apartment complexes. The exact names escape me, but I can post after I drive my daughter to pre-school. It is closer to the Main Street area/railroad tracks.

All are great areas! I happen to LOVE Connetquot (would have bought there, if we could). Sayville and East Islip are also fantastic. You can't go wrong with any of those areas IMO.Chat Icon

that's where I was looking

I ended up in East Islip- I got a great house for the money and I am SOM but don't need to worry about flood insurance

I can't wait to close!

East Islip/Sayville area?

We are in the Sayville school district, and although DS is not in school yet, my neighbors all love the district and I only hear great things about it. I LOVE my neighborhood. Everyone is so friendly and the Sayville town events are family oriented. We are just north of Montauk, you will get more for your money and no risk of flooding. Any specific questions about areas, feel free to FM me. We have been here 6 years so far and have zero complaints.

ETA: Some areas of Sayville are Connetquot district. It's a bigger district but I have heard good things about it as well.

Overton and Hiddink over on Lincoln behind Stop and Shop. They arne't BAD areas but some of the homes and properties are a bit more 'run down' looking. And Lincoln is a pretty major road. I also would avoid living right on Lakeland too because it's a busy road. Johnson is busy too.. but not like Lincoln/Lakeland in my opinion.

I live in Sayville proper - but I actually prefer West Sayville - I think West Avenue and Atlantic are great and very tight knit. They are walking distance to the water but most of the houses are situated up on a hill so there isn't a lot of issues with flooding unless you back up to Greene's.

FWIW.. the principal of Sunrise Elementary (East side of town) has a reputation for being nasty to kids and parents. Lincoln is fine (Middle of Sayville) and Cherry (West Sayville) has a lot of fun. The Junior High is nice - but they really don't have a ton of programs or extra curriculars like you would see in a larger district so it's sometimes harder for kids to find their niche.. plus they have the WORST LUNCH POLICY EVER. Kids pick a seat in the first week of school and NEVER MOVE FROM IT AGAIN. And they don't go out for recess.. so they pretty much are stuck at a table with kids that they sat with in week 1 forevermore.

They have a GREAT music program though.

East Islip/Sayville area?

I live in East Islip, South of Montauk. I love it here and love the schools so far, although my DD is only in the Universal Pre-k program.

We are looking at south of Montauk in East Islip, and love the area. We just aren't finding what we are looking for with our price range. Do you know anything about north of Sunrise? Or Islip Terrace? I've heard bad things about Central islip and want to stay away from there or may not so desirable areas.

Good friends of ours live just south of sunrise close to Connetquot Ave and love it.

We also have friends who live in Isip Terrace (again off of Connetquot) and they have no complaints either

We live in Islip (we're in an apartment) and we absolutely love it. So much to do with DS as far as the library, parks, walking along Main St., and the local beach. My nephew is in the school district and loves it. We would love to settle around here in a home eventually.

What do you know of the area north of sunrise? No good because of CI?

I don't know much. I have family north of sunrise off of Commack Rd and haven't heard complaints. That part is actually closer to Brentwood than CI.

I live in Islip Terrace and I absolutely love it. We knew we wanted the East Islip school district but we couldn't find/afford a house in East Islip. I am very happy with our decision. We have been in our house for five years and my son is in Kindergarten. So far the school has met my expectations. We are very happy here.

Islip Terrace is great too. Its East Islip s.d. for the most part. I think some of it is CI SD which I advise to avoid. Islip is good too.

We live in Islip, south of Sunrise and like it here so far, it's been about 3 years. We looked in West Islip, East Islip and Islip and ultimately found what we were looking for in our price range in Islip. We love that we can walk around on Main Street, we are close to the water and the school district from what I have heard is really good but small.

I agree about Islip Terrace! I sold a house last summer in Islip Terrace, East Islip school district (Rockaway Ave). It was a really great neighborhood - well-maintained, quiet, friendly neighbors. And my clients got a lot for the money (a huge colonial in great condition -- updated kitchen, hardwood floors -- and a large lot). The husband had grown up in the area and went to East Islip schools so he knew which areas he wanted to avoid and which were more desirable.

I would also check out Bohemia. It's the connetquot SD and taxes are generally less than EI.

We looked in Sayville and Oakdale and really liked both. Ended up in neither but only because we decided they were too far from work.
