Neural Tube Deficiency Scare

My doctor called me yesterday with the results of my seq 2 (I think that's what this was) blood test and told me everything came back great except for the test for neural tube defect which causes spinabifida, among other things. He had me call the high risk doctors at Winthrop (perinatal associates) to get in ASAP to further evaluate the results. Needless to say, I was freaking out. I got this call in the middle of work(I'm a teacher) and had to teach a class right after. Luckily, the high risk doctor was able to fit me in right away. I had to meet with a geneticist first, which really served no purpose, and the. I had another sono-essentially an early anatomy scan. The sonographer was wonderful and definitely a calming presence and when the doctor finally came in, he told me that my scan came out beautifully. My baby boy looks great! However, because I'm a "worrier" he wants me to see him for my 20 week since its his office that evaluates the results anyway. This way, I will get immediate, face to face responses instead of having to wait.

So although yesterday started out horrible, it had a happy ending, and I just have to rave about Perinatal...they were wonderful!

I'm happy everything looks good with your little boy!

I wrote a post a couple of days ago about how I got a call on Thursday after my 2nd finger stick test...the results indicate an increase in risk for NTDs (and yes--I'm a teacher too and had to teach right after Chat Icon)

I am going for my anatomy scan Monday and to the geneticist on Tuesday. Trying to stay calm.

I loved them at Winthrop perinatal except for one nurse: Gina G. She couldn't get blood out of me for the maternit21 test and kept pressuring me to do an amniotic (which the dr said he didn't want to do). The. Kept asking me if I was going to terminate the pregnancy which I felt was incredibly inappropriate.

I hope you get good results to ease your mind at your 20 week!
