Non-stop Itching

Hi!

My son gets pretty bad eczema and it usually doesnt bother him much but this past week he's been scratching like crazy on his inner thighs. Is there anything I can put on it to help relieve the itch? It actually woke him up last night because he was so itchy.

TIA!

Re: Non-stop Itching

I had to take DS to an allergist it got so bad. He was ripping his skin scratching so much and woke up in the middle of the night.
He's 4 now and seemed to of gotten a lot better. I still use Eczema lotion on him each night and have to use a special shampoo once in a while if I see it coming.
Have you tried aquaphor? Also the oatmeal bath?

Neither worked till I went to the allergist, but my DS is worse in Spring.

She STILL does it.. and at night I hear her tearing into her skin its horrible. I lay with her sometimes (her bed is comfy!) and have to stop her. We have a steroid crème, I keep her nails short and well filed, I also use aquafor it is worse this time of year. But her skin is like LEATHER on her arms. :(

Dove soap(mildest for babies), eucerine cream immediately after the bath(not lotion), and then acquaphor after the cream soaks in for a while. Is also go see a derm to get steroid cream.

Re: Non-stop Itching

We have a prescription (non-steriod I think bc she was under 1) for my DD because she scratched herself bloody one day and I said enough is enough! We initially used it every other day for a few weeks, then twice a week, then twice a month and now we barely need it. Not sure if she just cleared up on her own or what?

For daily upkeep we use Cetaphil for her baths and Cerave cream for post bath. HTH!

dc#2 has it pretty bad. I have found limiting baths to every other day helpful to prevent it once the weather starts to get cold. Aquaphor twice a day and we also have a Rx for hydrocortisone which we use as necessary. My dc was scratching to the point of bleeding badly we used bacitracin on those areas as well.

We use cortisone twice a day when it gets bad. Acquaphor the rest of the time.

Thanks everyone! Im going to try an oatmeal or cetaphil bath and I've been slathering him up with the Aquaphor--that really seems to be helping!

Cerave is the best! My 14 month had moderate eczema ...we use Cerave wash and lotion right after. Aquaphor on top of lotion if there was a flair up. Doesn't have it anymore on face...just a little on his back.

I have it also & it's been flaring up lately on my right hand. It also bothers me if I am in water to much. When bathing my twins I try to stay out of water as much as possible.
I also don't feel aquafor works. I like the prescriptions better.

Re: Non-stop Itching

We give DD oatmeal baths with Aveno and immediately after slather her in shea butter moisturizer to lock in the moisture.

Keep baths quick and try a mild, non sudsy soap (we use california baby super sensitive). Pat dry and immediately slather on a moisturizer. DD does best with aquafor or babyganics bye bye dry. We've also done the aveeno baby oatmeal baths which help. I think it's the change of seasons/temperature that often bring on a flare up.

Try extra virgin organic cocunut oil..you can get it at trader Joe's. A friend of mine has very bad excema on her legs and tried this the other day and said it helped a lot! You can also google it and find great results!

I get it on my hands in the winter. Put on extra virgin coconut oil or avocado oil when the skin is wet. Also, make sure you are using a gentle hand soap and body wash. I switched to natural / organic soups and shower gel and it helped so much ! I've discovered that my skin reacts badly to the ingredients in conventional products. Also, avoid too much exposure to very hot water. That's another trigger.
