If your child has a food allergy...
...is there a list of SAFE foods that you work off for snacks etc?
My son is in a UPK program and their snack of choice the past two days has been Cheez-its and apple juice. My son is a pretty healthy eater and his normal snack that I would provide would have been fresh fruit and maybe a yogurt tube with his own water bottle. I know its easier for them to limit food coming in from outside in case it poses a threat to any child with an allergy but is fresh fruit harmful?
Is there a list that you work off that maybe I could suggest to them that does not include a daily snack of cheez its and apple juice?

Honestly, there are so many different allergies these days. You need to ask this question directly to those people in charge of your child's school. My son has a banana allergy. So your healthy snack of a banana could harm my child. It is so dependent upon the kids in the classroom that no one here could give you a list. KWIM.

I would say that even pretzels are healthier than cheez It's. they are SO greasy...AND they would not be good for any child with a dairy allergy. I would definitely say something if apple juice and cheez it's are the daily snack. Obviously, apples would be ok if they are serving apple juice, KWIM?
There are even while grain gold fish, which if feel better about that Cheez it's!

I would definitely inquire about the specific allergies and what you could bring in place of their snack. Do they plan on offering the snack every day? Once in a while is one thing but I wouldn't want DS to eat that all the time either.
I quoted the above because I am probably one of the only people who is actually allergic to apples but not apple juice. There's always one..

The thing is that they dont give specifics just that they provide snack to avoid any issues with allergies etc but they dont say that a specific child has an allergy and what it is. I truly believe its just a blanket statement and they throw it out there and dont expect anyone to question them. The reason I say this is because they said this when my DD was at the same pre k program three years ago...I persisted, found out there were no allergies in the classroom, requested several times that I provide my own snack and eventually they basically gave in and my DD ate her snack from home each day.
I guess I will have to dig deeper with these teachers and find out if there is a child in the class with specific allergies and what they are.

Not necessarily... there are plenty of people who are allergic to fresh fruit but not when it is cooked/dried/pasteurized, since the enzymes that people react to are broken down during those processes (myself included).
