when to try again

I'm experiencing another chemical at 7wks along Chat Icon It sucks so much because I had 3 of them before conceiving DD 3yrs ago and just never thought I'd have to deal with it all over again. I thought logically after having such a healthy pregnancy that my body would get it together, but such is not the case I suppose. I refuse to waste a moment. I want #2 and will continue trying. Can anybody give me some advice on this? It's been a long time since I've experienced my other losses - what is the timeframe before trying again? What have your doctors all recommended? I'm bleeding right now (sadly still in the beginning stages of losing it). Once that's done, are we ok to start trying next O, or is this something I should wait one full cycle for - after next AF?

I'm calling my Dr on Monday and will ask as well, but curious what advice others have gotten.

I am so sorry. I had a pretty early loss... Beta only went up to 16 and got AF a week late. My ob practice had mixed opinions on whether to wait a cycle but the nurse told me the doctors who tell you to wait are more concerned with being able to accurately date the pregnancy and you being emotionally ready. I have irregular cycles and have been using opks so you can't date me off of LMP regardless and I know for me emotionally i needed to try again right away.

I am at the tail end of my first cycle post mc and just got a bfn at 11dpo so it looks like it doesn't matter for me if I had taken off this cycle. You are a bit further along than me so your doctor may have different thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss :(

Are you sure it's a loss? Some people bleed during pregnancy. Have you been to your dr yet?

Re: when to try again

I went to the ER on Thurs and got blood taken, also had a sono where the sac was only measuring 5wk1D even though when I had gone to my regular OB a week earlier I was measuring closer to 6wks. So obviously that was off. Went back yesterday for follow-up blood test and the HCG numbers were decreasing. This morning I seemed to have passed the sac. Even after 3 chemicals years earlier - I've never seen anything like this and am still in complete shock (although I have already accepted the loss). So no doubt, I should be finishing up this awful process soon.

After many many tears, anger, numbness, & acceptance I feel like emotionally, I'm now ready to move on & try again as soon as it's physically healthy to do so. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it. And I'm so sorry that you have been experiencing this as well. Chat Icon

Re: when to try again

I just got off the phone with my OB's office and they want to see me in 2wks to do a sono and make sure everything has passed on its own. The nurse was like "the doctor will be able to talk to you then about when you start trying again in a few months..." what? lol. I didn't say much since she's just the nurse and not the doctor, but no way I'm waiting a few months to try again. I'm thinking next cycle (after next AF)! I'll obviously talk to my Dr about that later, but nobody here was told they couldn't try again right away, right?

Were you 7 weeks along, or that was how far along you where when you found out bad news?

I was only 4.5 weeks when I mc. I got a bunch of BFPs, went for a beta 2 days later and it was 16, then 11 another 2 days later, and then AF started. So, very early. There may be reason to wait if you were further along. I don't know.

My OB officially told me to wait a cycle but the nuse told me that people in the practice were split on that and with a chemical their reasons to wait were more for being able to more accurattely date a subsequent pregnancy and to give yourself time to be emotionally ready to try again. I needed to try again right away to emotionally cope with everything and did, and I just got a BFN. Hopefully some of the other ladies can weigh in too...

Re: when to try again

^^ thanks. Yeah, I'm curious what everybody else has experienced.

I was 7wks along when I started spotting, but when I went to ER and got my sono I was only measuring 5wks. So you'd think it would be like the others I lost years ago (all before 6wks) when it comes to size. Who knows though!! With the others I never got checked out afterwards, just let it run its course and all went fine. I'm gonna go to my appointment in 2wks either way cause it's probably good to make sure its all out. Once it is though, I'm ready to go again.

Re: when to try again

It seems like everyone does something different, although my RE told me after a chemical to wait 1 month off because of inflammation in the uterus. I know it's an emotional time where your instinct is to try again ASAP, but ultimately you should do what's healthiest for yourself and your future baby. Of course there are different theories out there and plenty of people do get pregnant right away after a loss - but this was the advice I was given and I do believe the body physically needs time to heal. You want the best environment in there with a good lining.
