how much do you pay your mom if she watches your kids. Are you happy with the arrangement? Pros/cons?

My MIL watches one day and FIL watches one day. We do not pay but would have if they would have taken the money.

I do make sure that they do nto need anything though. There is always food, supplies etc!!!

we don't. I don't think ever in a million years our parents would take money from us.

My mom is actually going to quit her morning job to take care of the baby in Sept, so we will pay her what we currently pay the sitter. At first she did not want to get paid, but being that she is quitting her job, we only feel it is right to pay her.

Yes, my MIL watches ds full time and has for over a year. While I am sure she'd love to not take the money from us- she works 40 hours a week and it is her job.

We have a contract and we pay her about what we would have paid for care for ds in a home center. We also cover gas and her ez pass because she drives from yonkers.

It has its ups and downs but there is literally NO ONE else I would trust ds with more. They adore each other- she takes him to classes, the beach, the pool, everywhere. We are really lucky. We disagree on a couple small points- she gives him too much juice but nothing that's a deal breaker for either of us and we always just discuss and work through

we pay my mom $500 a month to watch dd
you cant beat it...we were paying daycare $1387 a month...i would be willing to pay my mom that much too!!! the peace of mind knowing shes watching dd is priceless

DS is two days with my mom, one day with MIL and two days with SIL, we only pay SIL. Our parents do not take money, if they needed it of course we could give it to them, SIL I feel I have to pay even though she tells me I don't lol I pay her $65 a day for 7:30-3:15. It works very well for us.

We support my parents financially regardless of whether they watch my kids or not.

When we lived in NY, she watched my son when he was a baby/toddler. It was good most of the time but she quit/I fired her several times.

We moved out of state and got hired help. IMO paid good help is much better than family help. Paid help does not talk back and nag you!!!! Our nanny is not perfect but our kids love her like she is like part of the family. Our family would fall apart without her. Both my mom and MIL also love our nanny.

No, my mother is retired, with a pension, and she didn't want any money to watch DD. She watches her 2-3 days/week.

My dad watches DS full time while I work. I do not pay him and he would never expect to be paid. I have however paid for a 2 week trip, a weekend trip and a large television. So he gets "paid" in other ways. It always makes him so emotional when I give him these gifts but he deserves them and I am so happy that my son has the relationship he does with my dad. It's priceless!

My mom only watches DS 1 day a week, so no we don't pay her. If it was more I would offer to pay her. I don't think she would take it though.

I do send him with lunch, drinks and snacks as well as diapers and wipes.

No...but my sis did and paid none to mom or fil

No, but she only watches them 1-2x a month when DH & I go out on a weekend. If she would take the money, we would pay her though.

Yes we insist otherwise I feel guilty, however I am pretty sure they are putting the $ away in accounts for all the grandchildren.
We pay them 50 a day for 3 kids

MIL watches DD two days per week, and we do not pay her. If DH's parents needed the money, we certainly would.

yes we do. $200 a week for 8-3 five days a week

We pay my MIL to watch both kids full time $1000 per month cash.
ETA: happier than when DS was in daycare but not as good as watching your own kids. The convenience is the best. She comes to me. Depending on when the kids get up in the morning I don't even have to get them dressed.

my mom gets paid to watch DS, she watches him the entire work week, makes meals for us and does laundry. It would be abusive in our case not to pay her given all she does. My mom makes it possible for us to live so comfortably, very grateful.

Also, my mom has no other source of income so if we didnt pay her, she'd be off working and we'd have to pay daycare or a nanny.

The past two years my parents watched my dds 3 days a week 7:30-3:30 and we did not pay them, they would never accept money from us

We do not, my parents watch my DD and my niece and nephew 2 days a week. They love it, they would never take money for it - ever- but they are also both retired and very financially secure and do not need the money from us, which may not be the case for everybody. My brother and I were also raised in large part by my grandmother bc my mom worked full time.. so for my parents, they just feel it is now their turn to do the same for their grandkids.

I think this is a difficult question, because I don't see many parents accepting money unless they were in a situation where they needed it, and likewise, people might not offer unless they have money to spare.

My mom watched my first DS 3 days a week and did not need or accept money for it.

My mom watches ds 2-3 days a week. She refuses to accept any money from us. Which saves us a ton of money.

my parents would never accept any money from me. That said, we are overly generous during gift giving occassions

As to how the arrangement is? If she was a salaried employeed she would have been fired already

Mine only watches once a week or so and I don't but I pay for lunch if its lunchtime and I want to get her a gift since she has been doing it a lot. If it was a FT thing I'd probably pay her.
