N Bellmore vs N Merrick SD
Anyone have any input? I know one isn't "better" than the other but does anyone know the rankings of these schools? Where can I go to check out school rankings? Moving to the island from NJ for husbands job and we are clueless.

I do a lot of work in both areas... and my office is in N. Bellmore. I also live in N. Bellmore. So I am very familiar with the school districts.
One thing to be aware of re: the school districts in Bellmore and Merrick is that grades K through 6 have 4 individual elementary school districts -- Bellmore, N. Belllmore, Merrick, and N. Merrick.
Then, for grades 7-12, there is one Bellmore-Merrick Central school district, which encompasses all 4 elementary school districts. For grades 7 & 8, Bellmore and N. Bellmore attend Grand Ave. Middle School, and Merrick and N. Merrick attend Merrick Ave. Middle School. There are 3 high schools - Kennedy is for south Bellmore and south Merrick (basically Bellmore and Merrick elementary school districts), Mepham is for N. Bellmore, and Calhoun is for N. Merrick.
N. Merrick elementary schools are Camp Ave., Old Mill, and Fayette. N. Bellmore elementary schools are Saw Mill Rd., Dinklemeyer, Newbridge Rd., Park Ave. (which is actually located in N. Merrick but is N. Bellmore schools), and Martin Ave. Parts of N. Merrick are zoned for N. Bellmore schools (the Crest section, parts of Merrick Manor, etc.).
As far as rankings, Newsday's school website provides detailed rankings based on various criteria (e.g. various tests and subjects at different grade levels). Other good sites to look at are www.schooldigger.com and www.greatschools.org. They give both statistical, objective information, and also provide parental reviews.
N. Bellmore and N. Merrick are pretty similar communities in terms of demographics, imo. And they have a lot of combined community activities (e.g., N. Bellmore/N. Merrick Little League).

I am noticing the report card is from 2008...do you know where I can obtain current information?
Is there a certain part of N Bellmore (north of Southern State) that is considered better than south of it? I am sorry I am just clueless.

Newsday and the websites I provided should have current information.
And this doesn't help with rankings, but I think it's always a good idea to look at the school district websites themselves, and the individual school websites, to get a sense of the school culture, what it offers in terms of academic programs, sports, extarcurriculars, etc.
As far as N. Bellmore, I can't really comment on "better," because again, it's kind of a subjective thing. I will say that north of the southern state in N. Bellmore is where the homes tend to be bigger and have a bit more value/go for a higher price (in general -- obviously it varies by block and house). To the east of Newbridge Rd. (between Newbridge and Bellmore Rd.) is the "Old Britton Estates" section. I live there. There used to be a neighborhood elementary school there (Gunther), but it closed last year. Now children in that area go to either Saw Mill Rd. or Dinklemeyer. On the west side of Newbridge Rd., north of the southern state, is called "Catalina Estates" and is zoned for the Dinklemeyer elementary.
Some people also like the areas of N. Bellmore that are down closer to Sunrise Highway (there are neighborhoods there, just south of Camp Ave, called Maplewood and Croydon Crossing). They are the furthest south in N. Bellmore and are more convenient to the LIRR and Bellmore Village areas. They are zoned for Martin Ave. elementary.
I wouldn't say there are any "bad" areas of N. Bellmore, but there are some pockets of smaller, less expensive houses. It really depends on your budget and what you prefer in terms of style of house (some neighborhoods are mostly splits, others have all capes, etc.) and location.

I'm pretty sure that Old Britton Esates is east of Newbridge. I think that area was originally zoned for Gunther Ave. Elem. School but since that closed, I don't know what school that is.
The area you described, west of NBR, Washington Ave., etc. is zoned to Dinkelmeyer. I went there! I lived in N. Merrick but was zoned for N. Bellmore schools. No complaints!

Good to hear that about Saw Mill. I am in the Old Britton area, and my son is 4 (but he's an early Dec. birthday, so he just misses the cut off and has another year of preschool before he goes to K). But he will be going to Saw Mill in Sept. 2014.
To the OP - The area by Barbara Ct. and Washington St. is very nice and is zoned for Dinklemeyer as a previous poster said. I've heard very good things about that school (my sister student taught there years ago). I actually have a listing coming out on Waltoffer right after Memorial Day -- Colonial style house to be priced in the high $400Ks. So if anyone is interested in that area, definitely let me know!

Just about right! The only thing is that if you are in N. Merrick and zoned for N. Merrick, the middle school is Merrick Ave., not Grand.

Right! It's confusing because it's separate districts for elementary, the same for middle & high. Then you have the area in N. Merrick zoned for N. Bellmore. It's all so confusing. When I moved into the area, I was about 8 years old and thought it was the strangest thing that the kids around the block, literally 2 houses away, would never go to the same school as me even though we lived in the same town!

Yes, but be aware that -- and this is my understanding -- the district reserves the right to place your child in a different elementary school regardless of geographic zoning. That's probably true anywhere, but I know in N. Merrick, the Fayette school (which is the furthest north, toward the E. Meadow border) usually has the least population. So they sometimes will put kids from other neighborhoods in N. Merrick district in Fayette to balance things out.

I have a great new listing on Waltoffer Ave. (right near Barbara Ct., which you had asked about). Colonial - 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, formal dining room, updated eat in kitchen, formal living room with gas fireplace, master suite extension on the main floor (that could also be an amazing den/family room), 1 year old roof, 2 car attached garage, oversized property with an inground pool and koi pond, 1 year old wood composite deck. Asking price is $489K, taxes are around $12,500 without STAR (would be around $11,200 with basic STAR).
It's zoned for Dinklemeyer elementary, Grand Ave, and Mepham High.

Exactly this. There are quite a few families at my children's school who live closer to a different elementary but go to ours instead.

Anyone have feedback of the area between Jerusalem ave and bellmore road in bellmore? Ex. Janet ave, Ruth place, olive street neighborhood?
Also, what about gormley ave/Elise ave in merrick?
Are they both good neighborhoods? Is there one to stay away from? I know certain pockets are better than others.
Any input is appreciated!

Nothing bad to say about this area! Schools would be Chatterton, Merrick Ave, Calhoun. Close to all schools, parkway, train station.
ETA: There's really no area in Merrick that I'd stay away from.
