Testing Accommodations

If students have a testing accommodation on their IEP that states, "Directions and questions read and reread",how does that work? I know this does not apply to ELA, only math. How does the proctor read the questions to the students? Do they all have to be working on the same question at the same time? Isn't this distracting and shouldn't they be working at their own pace?
Also, why would students have this accommodation if they are a fluent reader to begin with?

Testing Accommodations

In my school, that student would be tested in a separate location. The proctor would be on pace with the student.

Re: Testing Accommodations

In my school students are grouped at about 11 kids per room for directions and questions. So many kids have at that it is impossible for them to each be tested individually. They are not allowed to go ahead and must wait for the group and the proctor to read each question. There are many reasons a child might have that accommodation

Re: Testing Accommodations

In my school kids are tested individually if they have test read (of course not for ELA). If a child is a fluent reader, they don't qualify for this accommodation. This is for the reader who does not have fluency.

It's so interesting how different schools interpret this...interesting or scary lol I have students who can read fluently but due to language processing issues have the information read aloud to them.
