I guess I should add that I am a person who gets skeeved really easily and would not be happy staying at a place that seems like it needs a good washing lol Some of these descriptions of the Poly are making me want to clean it! Is this a concern? How are the restaurants?

Restaurants are fantastic at Polynesian.

Don't expect much in terms of rooms.

I've given up what I like in hotels for the kids. I'm paying $800/night for Beaches Turks and Caicos in April and from the LIF boards, I expect lower than Sheraton standards in terms of rooms.

In my pp, I recommended Arts of Animation. It is a brand new hotel and although it is not a deluxe, they are suites and I would assume the rooms are immaculate. That is why I plan to stay there.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian on our honeymoon (before DD). It was very nice and easy acess with the monorail but you do have to take the buses to go anywhere not on the monorail.

This summer we stayed at the Animal Knigdom Villas (we are part of the Disney Vacation Club). It was great to have a kitchen and all bc DD was 9 months. It was also great bc we had groceries delivered so we could have breakfast in the room most days and have snacks to take to the parks and stuff. It was difficult with the buses with DD, not the distance really but the waiting for the buses, folding the stroller and squishing on the bus. In the future DH and I have said we will DEF rent a car. It would be sooo much easier and parking is free at all parks if you are staying on property. I'd rather walk from a parked car than sit at a bus stop for up 30 minutes.

I don't think any of the Disney resorts are dirty. Some are just older and more outdated than others. The mousekeeping department does a great job!

Just an FYI the rooms at the Polynesian are SO outdated. It's ridiculous actually for the money you pay to stay there. The grounds are beautiful though.

Personally speaking I don't want to stay in a room that hasn't been renovated since the 70's. Regardless what the grounds and amenities are. I would choose the Grand Floridan or the Contemporary, or BLT before I chose the Poly, soley because of the rooms. Different strokes for different folks though. Updated decor is a huge thing for me when traveling.

Well while I agree they need a more updated look this simple isn't accurate. The entire resort was refurbished in 2002. All were redesigned in 2005-2007. I think they are doing redesign again now. In fact, they added several new buildings to the poly and those buildings are only 3 years older than the Grand Flordian. I could be wrong but I think the garden rooms were rehabbed even longer ago at the Contemporary. We have friends who stay both the contemporary and the poly who say the rooms are cleaner nicer at the poly.

I do agree they are dark and the decore is one you love or hate but they are not rooms that haven't changed since 1970. But IMHO you are paying for those three hotels for their convenience more so than the fact that they are "amazing" hotels. I think I heard for less or equal money you can stay at a real top hotel like the four seasons nearby. But you don't get the real perk of the monorails which for many is the reason to stay, or the ability to walk to the MK which is what several people I know pick the contemporary for.

ITA with this as well but, I think the overall resort is definitely nicer than the contemporary which to me feels like a convention type place and not a family resort. The Grand Floridian looks really nice and I would stay there next but, when we went last yr and again when I am looking now they are under construction and, I'd rather not pay top dollar to stay at a hotel under construction.

At the end of the day it comes down to how much you would pay for convenience. For us, we went with a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old and convenience was all I cared about. Yes, it cost the same to stay in just an OK room for the price that we have paid to stay in gorgeous Ritz Carlton rooms but, we had an amazing perfect trip because it was just so convenient!

ITA. I have stayed at the Contemporary many times and while I always loved it, it feels much less family oriented. Having stayed at the Poly last year as well, the resort is in a perfect location. Grounds and restaurants are beautiful, but the room do majorly lack in many aspects. I found my room to be VERY dusty (headboard clearly was not dusted, as neither was the sidetables). And the AC was loud and old but yes, it worked. The bathrooms also are very outdated and needed some rehab (I stayed in a supposedly rehabbed bldg, perfectly located Tokelau).

Having said that, I still loved our trip t here and may stay there again. I will try GF another time (it too was under construction when I went so I was not interested in staying there). And I will stay at Wilderness lodge my next tirip. Maybe the Poly again down the line but I can't say for sure.

But it's a great resort for so many reasons and we put convenience at the top of our list.

We stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort and LOVED it! Would totally recommend it and would stay there again. The kids had a blast.
