We currently have the Crane frog ones but someone told me that we should switch to one that has a filter it is better. Is this true? They said that without a filter mold and bacteria will grow. Any thoughts? We use them every night

Mine does not have a filter.
I can see mold and bacteria growing on the filter if you don't care for it so I don't see what difference it would make.
I just wash mine out vinegar and then hot water as per the instructions

Hmm, our Crane one has a filter? Isn't it the blue cartridge you remove to add water?

I think all humidifiers can get mold. You REALLY have to be on top of keeping it clean (and dry when not in use). I rinse ours out each day, let it air dry completely and clean it with vinegar (and qtips for all the lil crevices) once a week and I still feel like it could be CLEANER.

We have 2 pure guardian humidifiers and love them. They are expensive but worth it. We always had the crane ones and they always started to smell funny and make tons of noise. My sister had a pure guardian and suggested it. They are so much better. We have the larger ones that you only have to fill every few days or so.

I actually don't use one that often. We have a little thermostat that measures temp and humidity in the space and I only use the humidifier when it alerts me that the humidity is low. Because I hate cleaning the things. They are gross...

Crane with no filter.

Wash and wipe down after every use.

Rinse and soak in vinegar after every few uses.
