I really don't know why it is os hard for ppl. I have an odd plate. I did my errands yesterday and got gas knowing that I wouldn't make it till Tuesday (I commute 100 miles a day). Really not difficlut to figure out.
While I was filling up yesterday, some random guy comes up to me (No, I didn't get scared ) and starts b-itching about the whole odd/even thing. I said well, since there are no lines, looks like it's working to me! 
People are funny....

people need to just follow the rules...a line at the gas station or not doesnt matter. this was implemented for a reason and the fact that there is no line at some stations (which i havent experienced yet but im glad most of you have seen the change) means that this is working. if everyone had the mentality that if there is no line they can get away with it we will be back in the same situation we were in last week!

On a related note, I live in NC and we have been planning for months to drive up to NY for Thanksgiving on Friday. We don't know how we are going to do it though because Friday is an even day and our Jeep is an odd plate, and we would need to be able to make it all the way through NJ, the city and to East Moriches without filling up (since NJ has the even/odd system too). We don't know if we can make it, and I am stressing about it (we will be traveling with a 14 mo and two dogs)! We might see if we can borrow my parents' car because it is an even plate. So you never know what was going on with that guy.
Bring a gas can. You can fill that up any day, it will get you through.

A week ago it was these lines r so long,they need to do something
They do,seems to be working and people r still not following
It is either I saw no line, I am not the gas police,I had a certain situation,I am above the law and every diabetic ever
Pick a side people,not that hard..I just do not get it
And for the people who say if someone knocked on my window I wold be scared or I am or the police or people need to mind their business , if everyone just followed the rules there would be no need for anyone to knock on widows etc

the odd/even thing is most definitely helping- yesterday and today all the stations I passed had virtually no lines! (I'm in Queens traveling to Nassau)

The only thing I have to add to this is that I was in NJ all weekend where the odd/even days have been in effect much longer and EVERY SINGLE gas station I drove by all weekend had free pumps. Because the system is working, and people there seem to be following it! If people follow the rule, despite the apparent nuisance to some, it will start to help and eventually things can go back to normal.

I don't understand it. I wouldn't even dream of going to get gas on a day I am not supposed to. The law was put into place to alleviate the problem, not for people to act like this is the Wild West and do whatever they want.

See, your first problem is that you're thinking LOGICALLY! No bueno!!
Second problem is that you haven't considered ALL the million to one "what ifs" that are ever present on LIF.
and finally...
here's a thought...when the lines were HOURS AND HOURS long people had a problem with it. there was outrage, and frustration! Now, a plan is set into place and is WORKING, people are getting gas easily, lines aren't hours long, life is good!
what those who are saying "it's no big deal!!" "i have better things to worry about" , "i'm not the gas police" are not realizing is that there aren't any lines because THE PLAN IS WORKING so how perhaps they should try looking at the big picture!
how EASILY we forget.
if only people were so understanding of pot smokers!

I think we need to realize that, while it may appear that the system is working, the gas lines are shorter because power is coming back and the supply is better. The system should have been put into place the same day that NJ did it. That is right, I said it, NJ is better than NY in this area.
BTW...if you are looking at people's license plates while you are getting gas, you are a tool. If the gas station wants to run the risk of getting fined, that is their business.

Gina, my comment wasn't directed towards you or people in that situation. I was talking about people going to get gas at places that don't have lines. By me, the lines have gone away. I do think that the rules should be followed, but if there is a place that has no lines, I don't think they should have to turn away a sale because of an even numbered day.
BTW...Gina, you are never a tool!
