Christmas Present ideas (tablet-esque gift)

So I am trying to figure out what to get my 3 yr old for Christmas. It seems everyone is getting their kid some sort of tablet or game system. There is no way he is getting an ipad or kindle or any of that because I can't afford one for myself and he doesn't need an expensive piece like that. I was thinking of getting him one of the kid versions of the tablet. Ive seen the vtech innotab2, the meep, the leapfrog one.....any reviews or suggestions? (btw- he plays with my ipod touch constantly and knows how to operate the disney jr app better than I can)

I am also looking to do the same for my 3 year old as well. I keep seeing a lot of people saying just get them an iPad or inexpensive tablet...but I don't even have a tablet and I can't see getting an my LO a 'regular' one. From what I've been reading though, it seems a lot of kids that have had access to an iPad first are somewhat disappointed with a leappad or other child friendly 'tablet' which makes sense (thankfully I shouldn't have that problem LOL). That being said, I am doing some research into them to decide which I'd like to get. I've read pretty good things about the leappad but one of the biggest negatives I've seen is that the apps can be pricey (as opposed to other tablets, like the iPad where you can get less expensive or free apps).

Would love to hear others feedback though since I"m on the same boat as you.
