Beware of Babies R Us!!!!

DH and I ordered over $1,600 worth of furniture from the Westbury store. Exactly one hour after getting home, we got an email stating that if we bought 2 dressers (which we did), we could get 50% off the crib. The following morning, I called up the store to ask if they would honor the sale since we got the email so soon after we ordered the furniture. The Manager, Kathy, was extremely rude and unprofessional. She laughed on the phone when I explained our situation and rudely stated how if I bought a new car one week and it went on sale the next, the car dealer would not honor the price. I tried to explain to her that this wasn’t a car, and we were in there such a short time before this sale came out and how Babies R Us competitors would honor it, and she laughed and stated how it’s “Murphy’s Law.” DH called her back to try to reason with her and she wouldn’t even speak to him. She got on the phone with him and stated “I already spoke to your wife” and hung up on him. We then wanted to return everything we bought due to the poor Customer Service we received, but were then told that we would be charged a 20% restocking fee. This fee is not listed anywhere on the receipt or website and it was not explained to us when we ordered the furniture. We called and made numerous complaints to Corporate and nothing has been done.
The delivery comes at 220pm. They had previously called us to set up the delivery time of 9 A.M.-1 P.M. The delivery drivers were also very unprofessional. The one dresser was broken. I called the store to advise of the broken dresser and they ordered us a new one.
They delivered the 2nd dresser a few weeks later and it was also broken!!!!! We called the store again and they said they will order us another one. They assured me they will personally check the dresser to make sure it is not broken before it is delivered.
I get a call yesterday from the store teling me my furniture is in..so I said to the lady "ok, I just want to make sure that it will be checked before it's delivered." Her response was "Delivery?? Did you pay for Delivery? It's not set up for delivery." I'm like "OOOOOH NO!" So told her who I originally dealt with and she says she will speak with him and get back to me. Still no call back!

I am so upset and frustrated over this whole thing! I really wish we never went to BRU and went elsewhere. since this has happened we pretty much deleted our whole registry and went to Buy Buy Baby.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would continue to call corporate and email them. Also, call the Westbury store and ask to speak with the General Manager. If they do not give you any information then call the Massapequa store and ask to speak to the General Manager because that will be the same manager for the Westbury store too. I would not stop until this was resolved and you got money credited back to you.

OMG Im so sorry you are going throught this. What jerks!! I'd call their corporate # and demand that discount and free delivery. They should refund you delivery at least since they tried delivering 3 times. I did this with PB because they delivered the wrong furniture twice and they refunded my delivery charge with no questions asked.

I hate BRU.

I had 2 issues w/ them.

#1: My glider broke the first time I sat on it. They told me, "what a shame/ too bad" and refused to do anything. They wouldn't take it back, wouldn't replace it, wouldn't fix it....nothing!!!! I spoke with a manager who told me it was my fault and that I should have purchased a warranty. I finally contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new one.

#2: Some pieces of one of my newborn outfits came off and were in my son's mouth. I contacted their customer service and they refused to help bc they couldn't find the product in their "system." I sent an email to complain and they forwarded my email to the person who was rude to me on the phone. I called several more times out of concern for other babies and they refused to help. I finally had to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission to file a report. I wrote to BRU headquarters several times and never received a response. It was shocking because I was contacting them w/ a SAFETY issue and they did not care.


I have NEVER had a problem w/ BBB. The staff there are SOOOO helpful. They are great with returns too....which is another big issue w/ BRU.

I agree. Call corporate, send letters and emails. I would show all the receipts and the email for 50% off to show you got it that same day. If they have a Facebook page I would post it on there too

Honestly I would have stopped payment on my credit card the minute the manager was a witch on the phone!!!! I would explain everything to the credit card company and advise them to go after the payment and return everything to them.

Do you have any of the furniture in your possession at this time??? If not then it's even easier on you to have the credit card co. file a claim and refuse to pay based on the furniture being damaged.

Update:

I actually received a phone call from the Corporate office an hour ago! I spoke with a very nice customer relations coordinator who ensured me that my complaint is now being sent to the Regional Manager of the store. He gave me his own contact info and advised me to call him back directly if I don't hear from the Regional Manager by tomorrow at 4pm. I really hope this is going to work out!!!

I am sorry you are dealing with this. All my experiences with Babies R Us have been terrible so we only shop at Buy Buy Baby. The only time I will go to Babies R Us is if someone is registered there. The Westbury store is particularly terrible.

For baby furniture, we went to Behr's. We had some issues with a damaged crib and their customer service was excellent and corrected the problem to our satisfaction - so much so that we went back to them.

Too many companies have terrible customer service these days and I refuse to spend money on those that too. At the top of my list Thomasville - I will never purchase from them!

I LOATHE BRU. I will not buy anything of significance from them. I ALWAYS go to Buy Buy Baby. They have GREAT service, and they will take ANYTHING back.

That sounds like one of the most awful customer service stories I've ever heard! I'm sorry you have to go through that. I hope you are able to get in contact with someone higher up that can alleviate the situation.
This is exactly why we bought our furniture and registered at BBB- I heard so many BRU horror stories!

OMG, that's really really awful. I would be writing irate letters to that manager's higher-ups complaining about her unprofessionalism. I can't believe she spoke to you like that! What person wouldn't expect the sale to be honored and what business wouldn't honor it?! I probably would have just cancelled my order and repurchased it but that's just me. I would not let this go though, I can't believe they're treating you like this.

We had a sorta similar incident with them on Black Friday a few years ago. We got up ridiculously early (while I was pregnant) to buy the nursery set they had on sale and a recliner that was a ridiculously good real. So we go the crib set no problem (still very happy with it to this day) but when we tried to buy the recliner that was in the Black Friday circular it was somehow out of stock everywhere. The store had only opened 15 minutes earlier so it's not like it could have already sold out. I will say the store manager was SO SO nice and helpful, he had one of his staff order the chair for us online so we would still be able to get it and gave us a (real) 20% off coupon for our trouble.

Only problem was, the chair never came. After waiting the allotted 4-6 weeks for delivery, we realized it was never even charged to our credit card. We called the store, customer service, etc, there was no record of our purchase of the chair ever happening. Apparently the girl at BRU who placed the order on the chair didn't do it correctly and it never went through. So we went back to the same manager, he remembered us and was GREAT again. He gave us the same chair for the same Black Friday sale price, even though that sale was long since over and they didn't technically have to do it (although it would have been really bad business not to). So although they royally screwed up, the manager (Commack store) was so nice and beyond helpful. He's really the only reason I'll still shop there.

Update:

Still have not received a call back from the Regional manager. I'm giving him til 1pm today which is exactly 48 hours since I heard from Corporate and then I will call Corporate back to let them know I haven't heard anything. Doesn't surprise me at all! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I honestly have NO IDEA how BRU is still in business. They are the worst store on the planet. WORST.
I hope this gets resolved for you, how frustrating!!!!!
