I found a dog. HELP!!!
A dog was howling outside at 4:30 am this morning. She is super friendly.
White Husky. Female. Found in North RVC. Has a collar but no tage. doesn't have a chip we tok her to the vet this morning.
I called local and nassau county police. What else can I do. Nasau County said they would take her to the pund in hempstead but that is a kill shelter.
I will keep her before that happens. I just want to be able to find its owners!
Any suggestions would be great!!

petfinder.com is a great place to start, maybe look on craigslist (I wouldn't post though, people are crazy)

My dog got out twice and both times someone bought him to the Shelter in Wantagh, by the King Kullen. Super friendly, not a kill shelter.

Yes. The place in Wantagh near King Kullen is DEFINITELY a kill shelter. Google " kill the kitty" or town of Hempstead animal shelter. You will read of past and recent horrors.It is a terrible place.Please don't bring the dog there.

She may be talking about Bide-a-Wee that was next to the town shelter in Wantagh. Sadly, it's no longer there.

I would search Craigslist and call local vets! If the dog has a collar I am sure it's owner is searching for it! And be wary about CL!!!! There are people who claim to be the owners of a dog and claim it, only to sell it or harm it!! It was on the news, this is true. So be careful when dealing with animals and CL!

You can list on Craigslist but with limited information.
I wouldn't list the sex, the collar color or the breed. You can just list it as "white dog found". Let them give you that information.
And have them send a picture to you.

I found a dog last week, no tags but had the rabies tag so they would be able to locate the owners that way. In any case, we couldn't keep him overnight because he was afraid of our dog so one of the animal hospitals in the area offered to take him and help locate the owners. They said they would hold him for a few days. Luckily, we found the owner that night. Maybe try calling one of the animal hospitals in your area.

Is the dog all white? There was a husky reported missing in Levittown recently, but she's not all white.

I would put up signs in the neighborhood and walk the dog a lot - maybe someone will recognize him.

This is what I was going to say, put up some signs. But walking the dog, that is a great idea. Even if the owners don't spot you, maybe somebody that knows the dog owners will. Maybe you can ask around the neighborhood too. I know someone knocked on my door last year about a dog they found in the neighborhood. I hope it all works out.

If you can't find the owner, try contacting some rescue groups-like Furbabies in East Rockaway--to see if they can find a foster so she doesn't have to wind up in a shelter.

I hate to say this but it's possible someone just let her loose because Huskies can be a handful. There are some terrible people out there.
I did a quick google search and found some local Husky rescues, it could be a better option than a shelter:

Is this true??? We went there a while ago but didn't adopt anyone .. I had NO idea this was a kill shelter!! 
ETA: HOLY CRAPPPPP I just googled and see what you were talking about, this is the most disturbed shiit I have seen in my entire life.
