groccery bagger at supermarket

I was on Langley AirForce Base in VA where the baggers would carry everything to your car and load it for you.

Thats the only time I tipped.

God no!............and honestly, there is NO way I would tip these moron teenage baggers who as they are piling my cans on top of my eggs they are talking to the cashier next to them while texting at the same time. It's ridiculous.

Personally, I wish they would just do away with baqggers, they are SO useless, I much prefer to bag myself.

That's a nice way of putting it...moron teenage baggers...useless...Chat Icon

It might not be a nice thing to say, but it's often true. Sorry to say, but most of the teenagers I see working at the supermarket have a terrible work ethic-- they do more talking/texting than working. The one bagger I actually like at my Stop and Shop is a young woman with Down Syndrome. She has a friendly attitude and focuses on the task, and she knows the "rules" of bagging, so I don't get my bread squished.

I guess its semantics, but she could have easily said that younger kids don't take as much pride in the job and therefore may not do as good a job, instead of calling them useless morons. Hope no one ever calls her kid a useless moron, but I know in her world that that could never ever happen Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can't believe you are starting drama over a post on bagging at the grocery store. I'm sure she was calling those teenagers who didn't do their job, useless because really, if someone is getting paid and not doing what they are getting paid for, that is useless and most happen to be teenagers. I didn't see anywhere in her post where she referred to all teenagers as useless. There was no need to bring her child into it.

I have, though not frequently. If the person goes above and beyond, I don't see a problem giving them a dollar or two..

But then again, DH is in the service industry and he's got me tipping the gas station attendant when he pumps my gas too..

ditto!

I see tip jars out but I can't say I have ever tipped a bagger. Maybe once or twice. Normally I bag my own in reusable bags.

Why would you? They make a salary and it's their job. I tip waiters and waitresses. They make shit an hour and depend on tips to live. That's it. Tip jars are out of control

I was going to write this almost verbatim. They are being paid. It is what the person was assigned to do that day. End of story.
