WWYD?

Ok, I'll try to keep this short, please don't quote, thanks!

Yesterday we got an invitation to DH's cousin's confirmation, which will be next Wednesday afternoon. So basically we got a weeks notice, which I think is just really short notice. And I have my monthly OB appt. on the same day and time. I remember when I made this appt. the receptionist said that that is the ONLY day my doctor will be in that week, so if I wanted to change my appt. so we could go to the confirmation it would mean having to wait another week, or possibly more because at this point the doctor may even be booked up for the following week. I really don't want to have to put off my appt. DH and I get very eager to hear the baby's heartbeat and make sure everything is ok and it's hard enough to wait a month for each appt., I don't want to have to put it off!! Plus I've been sick and I had a fever yesterday, so now I'm really eager to hear the baby's heartbeat and make sure he or she is ok.

So I"m just curious, would you put off your appt. to go to something when you were only given a weeks notice? I feel like if we had been given a month's notice or even a few weeks I would have been more willing to try to change my appt., but at this point I feel like my priority is to go to the doctor and skip the confirmation. DH agrees with me. I just wanted to get some more opinions.

Thanks!

I think a week's notice is very short. Given the circumstances of your doctor's availability, I would keep the appointment. I don't know how far away the confirmation is, but maybe you can join the family for the party afterward?

Re: WWYD?

I would keep my appointment. When you have to go a month between appointments that is tough and I know personally I use to count the days until my next appointment because I was so anxious.

Just show up with a gift to the after party if there is one.

Re: WWYD?

I probably would have said to cancel the dr appt BUT a weeks notice is silly. Most people have plans and need more than a weeks notice for anything LOL. I would keep your dr appt.Chat Icon

Re: WWYD?

Keep your Dr's apt. They have probably known the date of the confirmation from the start of the year so giving guests 1 week's notice is not very nice. Maybe they are hoping that people won't make it?Chat Icon

I would keep it. That is short notice to reschedule and short notice for an event in general.

Re: WWYD?

Thanks ladies! That makes me feel better! I'm the type to feel guilty about stuff like this, and it doesn't help that MIL was giving us a guilt trip saying how disappointed DH's cousin will be. But now they're just going to have to understand that our child is our priority. And a week's notice is ridiculous under any circumstances!

For those that suggested going to the party afterwards, we can't even do that because of the timing. The confirmation is at 3, with a dinner following, and my appt. is at 5, which would be right when the dinner is. So by the time we got out of the appt., I'm sure the dinner would be over. And it's all taking place about an hour's drive away from us, so we wouldn't even be able to go to the church part at three because I would afraid we'd get stuck in traffic driving back east to the doctor since it would be around rush hour. So we have to miss the whole thing. The best we can do is mail a card and gift. I just hope they understand!

Re: WWYD?

try calling the doctor's office and changing the appointment (maybe make it earlier / later in the day). If they don't have anything available, keep it.

Depending on where the doctor and the confirmation are, maybe you can do both but just get to the confirmation a little late?

Re: WWYD?

Well if the confirmation is at 3, why dont you go there then head to your drs office for 5.

I mean to me a weeks notice would make me feel like we were an afterthought. I wouldnt feel guilty about missing it if you cant do it at all. I totally know how you feel about getting anxious to hear the babys heartbeat and know everything is ok.
MIL's LOVE to guilt trip us. Mine does the same thing and I dont feel guilty I just get annoyed with her LOL

Re: WWYD?

Your Dr appointment is MORE important than the confirmation.

Keep the appointment, but go to the cake and coffe after. Im sure they are going out to lunch, or back to the house for something.

But no. your HEALTH is more important.

I would try to call and see if they have anything open for the next week and if not I'd just keep the appointment. I think with only a week's notice they'd have to understand some people may already have plans! Good luck! Chat Icon

Its just that I know how the LIE is that time of day, so I'm afraid we'd be cutting it really close and might end up being late for the appt. if traffic is really bad. Plus we probably wouldn't even have time to stick around and say hello right after the church cermeony, we'd have to rush right out.

I definitely wouldn't reschedule your appt with only 1 weeks notice. If you feel like you want to attend, I'd plan to go straight from the ob's apt to the party. You could either be a bit late and still have dinner or have dessert. If it's too much of a hassle, then just do the ob apt.
