Woodcarpet Mulch vs. Pea Gravel for swingset...HELP!
Has anyone used either under they swingset? And if so what are the pros/cons? Here's the pros/cons I've found so far...the biggest thing that worries me with the woodcarpet is the possibility of bugs and problems with drainage.
Any info on people who have been there done that would be a GREAT help!
Woodcarpet playground mulch :
Pros:
Cheaper then pea gravel
Animals don't burrow in it (cats going to the bathroom)
Softer for a fall
Won't splinter
Certified for no chemicals, etc.
Cons:
Bugs attracted to it? (not positive on this)
Without proper drainage it could get water logged and float
Pea Gravel:
Pros:
Looks nice (different neutral shades)
Bugs not as attracted to it (not positive on this)
Can be used elsewhere after swingset no longer needed
Won't decompose
Cons:
More expensive
Possible choking hazard for infants, etc.
Not AS soft for a fall

Dont do pea gravel for under a swing set. Our previous owners had this and it was a pain to get rid of it all. When DS was old enough he would trhrow the rocks around. In my opinion not comfortable to fall on at all. We now have playground mulch that we put over a weed barrier. No issues and soft and nice looking.

AAHHH....I had finally decided to do the gravel too. I read a lot of great things on it on other message boards. Is the playground mulch the woodcarpet or something like that? Have you had any problems with rain and what about the bugs??
ETA: When you say playground mulch is it wood fiber or are you talking about rubber? We aren't doing the rubber....way too expensive.

We have gravel. No major issues. The kids love to fill buckets up with it. It was cheap and does the job.
