Does anyone have any experience with

prenatal enlarged lateral cerebral ventricle?
Without going into to much detail right now, we went for a sono and the lateral ventricle on our DC's sono was slightly enlarged. WE are being sent to a specialist but I am trying to collect as much information as I can so I am prepared for everything.
TIA

Re: Does anyone have any experience with

I don't have any experience with this. My DD had cysts on her brain that ended up going away on their own (she's a healthy 19mo old now )
I am sending thoughts and prayers your way, hoping you have a positive outcome, as well...

Re: Does anyone have any experience with

Do you know if the third ventricle is also enlarged? My son has Hydrocephalus which is when the lateral & third ventricles are enlarged. We found out when I was around 27 weeks PG. Have they mentioned hydrocephalus, or any other conditions? Are they only slightly enlarged, or more? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get more info to see if I can help you.

Where are you? If you're in Nassau I can highly recommend a neurosurgeon for you if you need one.

I will pray everything is ok! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Please FM me if you need anything!Chat Icon

ETA: I just reread and saw they're only slightly enlarged. It means there's still a chance it could clear up. I really hope it does, but just know that if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone have any experience with

Thank you much for the well wishes

@bmonster- as of right now all I know is the lateral ventrical is slightly enlarged- I dont even know if it is one or both. The doctor walked into the room on a routine growth sono check up and the next thing I know is we are dealing with this information. I was so overwhelmed I didn't even ask any questions. I feel like an idiot for not asking questions!
All I know right now is the office is going to call me to set up an appointment with a dr. Cohen in westchester. Have u heard of him ? If you could give me your doctors information, I would be very grateful. If you want to fm me the information please do so!
I am at work right now typing on my phone so it's difficult but it I'd I can fm you tonight with questions I would really appreciate it? Google is killing me right now !

Eta- in in Nassau but will travel anywhere !

First off, deep breath!

It's rough, I know. I went through it, got bad news, more bad news and it was rough! I know it's hard, but before you drive yourself crazy with google, see what they find out. If the fluid is slightly off, they will need to get more tests (for us, we had to wait 3 weeks because brain fluid takes time to build up so they can see a change).

Your baby may be ok. The fluid can still clear up. If it doesn't, you'll deal with it. If you don't want to wait for your next appt, make a list of questions and call the Dr. Just say you were too overwhelmed before, but you have some questions. At your next appt, or any appt from here on out, come armed with any questions, but also a notepad to write down any info they tell you. If you think you may be too emotional (I think I cried at every single appt) or may miss too much to do yourself, bring someone with you to do this for you. It's hard to think clearly when you're PG (with all the hormones & stuff) and all this information is being thrown at you to process.

I remember at one appt with a high risk Dr, they ran tests, then we sat down with the Dr in his office and he said "Your baby has hydrocephalus. Do you have any questions?" We were like "Uh, what is it?" We wrote down what we could remember, went home to research it all & went armed with info & questions at our next appt.

Please feel free to contact me and I'll help you with what ever I can. DS goes to Dr Mark Mittler in New Hyde Park. Dr Mittler & Dr Schneider (part of the same office) are as far as I know & have heard the best Pediatric Neurosurgeons in NY (although others may feel differently). They are both wonderful and knowledgeable, we just love Mittler and feel that he has a bit better bedside manner, but you can't lose with either. I would trust both with my son's life (and I have, many surgeries) and I take what they say into more consideration than any other Dr.

Just so you know, they were/are not under our insurance so we paid out of pocket for our first consult, then got preapproved by our insurance after that for each visit (obviously depends on your insurance).
