signs of eczema...

I noticed Jack has 2 dry patches; one on his forehead, and one on his stomach, both very very light, but, my sister in law (who works with a lot of children) told me it looks like the start of it...

i called the doctor and they told me to stop using the j&j baby lotion and to try something for sensitive skin without any fragrance, like aveeno.

it's only been on day and I am keeping my eye on it for 24 hours, his check up is schedule for March 8, but I just feel like he may need to have this looked at. i certainly hope it's not a pet allergy, it can't be dust, or mold because I am very adamant about cleaning, and i use tide free & clear (i think, I can't run to the laundry room right now but its the tide in the white bottle, not the orange).

anything else that can possibly cause it? the patches are very light, slightly pinkish but not very bumpy like I saw in pictures of infantile eczema. im not very knowledgeable on this stuff and no one in my family, including me and my husband never had skin issues with anything.

Re: signs of eczema...

DS has eczema. It's very common especially this time of year. Your DS may just get a few patches now and then so I wouldn't worry too much about it. We use Cetaphil restoraderm bath wash and CeraVe lotion (in the tub is better than the pump). Our dermatologist recommend quick baths every other day (no soaking). We also have a prescription cream for really bad outbreaks. If you do a search you'll see a lot of kids on here have it, it's common

Re: signs of eczema...

DD had a horrible patch of it on her face when she was an infant.
The only thing that healed it was the cortizone cream (seriously it was gone the next day) but I dont think they can start that until 4 or 6 months.

In the meantime I used palmers Cocoa butter or aquaphor, but someone just told me that pure coconut oil works best

luke warm water, not TOO warm - will aggrevate his skin

we use dove soap and cerave cream Chat Icon

it started as a few patches on his upper legs and spread to his arms and back. with the luke warm baths, dove and cerave, we basically knocked it out Chat Icon

DD has eczema. It gets really bad some days (raised and peeling). It's not a sign of anything being wrong, it's just that she has sensitive skin and she spits up and drools like CRAZY, and all that saliva / acid from her stomach is really tough on the skin. Sometimes she has outbreaks elsewhere on her body too - it's especially common in skin folds, like behind the knees and around the ankles.

Using a wet washcloth to wipe off any spit up or drool has helped her face. J&J lotion was the worst for her. We use either Cerave or Aquaphor lately, and do lukewarm baths with Dove. Nothing makes it go away, though. We'll have to wait for nicer and more humid weather for that.

Re: signs of eczema...

The Aveeno eczema cream is great, I also use the Aveeno eczema cream cleanser. It's very sensitive and leaves DD's skin smooth and not dry.
