Re: MRI question

I had an MRI a few months back on my knee. I POAS that morning to double check because I don't think they will do an MRI if you are pregnant.

I have a horrible knee and I don't even know if I would need surgery. Either way, I've put off going to another knee doctor (I've been to 2 already) for almost a year now and focused on TTC.

Re: MRI question

When i had a MRI of my knee they asked me if i was pregnant before they turned on the machine...i'm thinking if they couldnt do the MRI if i was pregnant, wouldnt they have asked before i layed down?

i'm not sure about having surgery while being pregnant, you should ask your RE.

Re: MRI question

MRI is not known to be harmful to pregnancy, but is not recommended - there is no radiation but it does get hot - since its your knee, it should be ok.

I can't imagine a doc would perform knee surgery on a pregnant woman - the anesthesia seems like it would be dangerous!

Re: MRI question

As of now there arent any known side effects of having an MRI done but most places will NOT do it on a person knowing they are pregnant unless its an emergency type of thing. While there is no raditation an MRI is a string magnet that realigns the Hydrogen molecules in your body... I would not have an MRI done if I thought there was any chance I was pregnant.....

Re: MRI question

G, I would say if you absolutely needed a diagnostic test, an MRI would be the safest if you were PG. As far as surgery goes, obvs if it is an emergency, they would need to do it. I would, however, hold off on any elective surgeries until after I was pregnant. I don't want to say that my emergency appendectomy is what caused PG #1 to end the way it did, but I constantly wonder if the anesthesia had anything to do with the problems that arose later on.

I hope your knee feels better, BTW.

Eta: I just remembered that Zwanger Pesiri has an arms and legs only machine. I'm sure there is a place in Queens that does too.

Re: MRI question

I had an MRI and an MRA while pregnant with DS, the only thing I could not have was the contrast dye as it is radioactive.

ETA: I had major pregnancy complications with DS and this was a necessary diagnostic test of my brain.
