Mom's who babysit in your home (or moms who bring their child to a babysitters house) RE: illnesses
If one of the children you normally watches is sick, does the mom still drop them off at your house? Did you discuss this beforehand? Or if you drop your child at a babysitters house, what have you discussed regarding when your child is sick?
We never discussed it, because honestly, I assumed that if the kids were sick, then she would not bring them to my house and expose me and my kids.
The mom dropped the kids off this morning, and says to me "Oh, the baby has had a fever, I gave her some Tylenol... thanks!" and left.
I was shocked because if I were a "daycare center", then she would not be able to be here with a fever or illness.
WWYD?

Edited to add: she has a very bad cold and cough along with her fever.

I am NOT being snarky... this is part of why I hate the internet, nothing comes across as it should... but please, how is this a "perk"? For who? I only get paid when the kids are here, so obviously I want to watch them every day I am supposed to so I get paid, but this baby is sick, and needs to be home IMO.

When my dd went to an in home daycare, we followed the fever free for 24 hours, but runny nose/cough was ok. IMHO dropping off a child with a fever is not right, especially with the holidays so close.
ETA: I'd give the mother a call to pick the child up, and say that you would like for her to keep her home until she has been fever free for 24 hours.

This is what I thought too. Its common courtesy to all involved, the baby too.
Ugh... I guess I will have to talk to her to come to an understanding about what to do about sick days with the children.

If one of your three is sick, do you tell her/ask her to not bring her DD?
To me, if you have three kids that could happen often, and as a working mom, I wouldn't be able to take days off for your three being sick, and my own being sick, KWIM?

My 2 older kids are in 1st and 3rd grade and are in school all day, DD is home with me, but If one of my kids is sick, I call her and let her know ahead of time giving HER the option whether or not she wants to risk it. If she chooses to bring her kids here knowing that mine are sick, that's her business IMO. She has brought them here knowing that mine have been sick, and I have done my best to keep them apart. Once she kept hers home because my DD had a stomach virus.
Obviously this is something I should have discussed with her ahead of time, and am going to have to talk to her about it.

I watch a friends daughter 3 days a week. This is what I do:
If MY child is sick I call and ask them what they want to do.
If THEIR child is sick they call me and ask me.
That being said, they have another option in addition to me bc the grandmother can watch their child...HOWEVER, the way I see it is the kids spend so much time together, most likely if one has it the other one is soon to follow. Incubation for a cold can be anywhere from 7-14 days. Who knows who gave it to who and so on.
I am also all for building up their little immune systems. I would hate for DS not to be exposed at all until it was time to go to school bc we all know what happens then! WHAM! Sick every week.

Tough call but I'm inclined to say without the fever (b/c I think fevers DO warrant a baby staying home period) it's okay for her to bring kids with a cold. The situation ISN'T daycare so the same "rules" don't apply.
If I were you I would just try my hardest to segregate. Is there somewhere your kids can go after school for a while? Grandmas? A friends house? Just to try and keep them away from the germs a bit.

I agree with immune system building and all that, but I have 3 kids who all go to school, they bring home every bug imaginable. So we are good with the germs 
I guess I just honestly assumed that if the child had a fever, that the mom would not drop her off here (or would at least give me a heads up to give ME the option of saying "please don't bring her") A cold is one thing, a cough, please... every kid in the world has a cold and or cough this time of year, I expect it. But a fever? No.

You are right. I just haven't really crossed that road. My DS and the other LO have just passed some run of the mill colds back and forth with a couple of good coughs. We haven't had a fever issue in the year that we have been watching the other LO. I don't know tho, other than the child really not feeling well what makes a fever worse? I am totally not being sarcastic here, I am serious and I suppose a little newer at this!

I have been watching a little girl for over 3 years now. We started watching her when she was 6 weeks old.
There have been plenty of times that she was at my house sick. Most of those times she got sick during the day. Whether or not her Mom knew that she wasn't feeling well -- I don't always know. But there have been plenty of times that she was vomiting, coughing horribly, and was at my house. She has had fevers several times too.
That being said...this is what I think about it. And I do think you need to be upfront about it, even if you have your own children, so that there is a clear understanding of what is to be expected in reguards to this. It is your family, your household being exposed to germs.
No fever for at least 24 hours if you are coming to my house, and that is without meds. If the fever is only being controlled by meds, then there is still a fever IMO.
No active vomiting, and coughing can't be so severe that it causes vomiting either every time that they have a coughing fit. 
Runny noses and mild coughs are OK...because well, sometimes they are caused by things like allergies. I know my DD has many allergies and so there are several weeks at a time in the fall and spring when she has a runny nose, not much I can do about that!
And if you want me to give your child any OTC meds or follow up with antibiotics, I need the dosage written down clearly from you! No interperting charts on bottles, don't tell me in the morning and not write it down for me, I need you to tell me AND write it down so that I know for sure and I am not going to make a mistake!

My son was watched in a home with one other baby/child. She also had three children of her own. Our rule was no drop off if the child had a fever, or vomiting. She also did not charge for the days he was home sick but this was something we worked out.
Colds were open game. But she was pretty generous about taking him when he was pretty sick on the days she only watched him(the other kid came only 3 days a week). We would talk that morning and make the call. Vomiting was pretty much her only no way, which I completely understand.
