Am I doing the right thing...regarding bottles/sippies?

Xavier is 22 months old...at about 12 months I took away his bottles and replaced them with this sippy and continued to call it his baba. There were no issues at all and he acted like he didn't even notice. 10 months later and the kid is ADDICTED to them. He wants it when he's tired...thirsty...upset. He'll drink water from other cups and sometimes milk but when he wants his "baba" nothing will suffice. I tried taking it away and giving it to him only when he will nap or sleep at night but he got smart and will tell me "need baba...I tired...go ni-nights"...with a fake cry and all. He would then lay on the bed...eyes closed...drink it and pop up wide awake!!

Am I right for trying to take it away? It's not a bottle but he treats it as such...he really is addicted like one would be to a paci. He's been crying for it for the last 30 minutes and I keep giving him a different sippy an he's refusing it.

My doctor told me that spout sippies are just like bottles, no difference at all so he had me skip them and go straight to straw sippies. . .can you try a brand new super cool straw sippy? Something with his favorite character?

I am kind of mean and whenever DD gets too attached to something, I take it out of the rotation LOL She was hooked on her pink straw cup so I hid it and only offered yellow. . . I even go back and forth with regular cups, regular water bottles etc so she won't refuse anything

Of course, sometimes she still refuses it -- but she she will eventually give in!

He has no problem using ALL different kinds of sippies throughout the day. This is the ONLY one he'll accept when he wants his "baba". I wish I knew that about the soft spouts...I would NEVER have started them...lol.

Yes its a Munchkin. We have the straw ones for water and he loves them. He won't accept it when he' looking for his "baba". I also won't put milk in straw cups though.

i'm a slp and yes, sippy cup tops are like bottles in that children use the same suckle pattern as they do from a bottle's nipple. I think that is why your DS is putting up a fit...to him you are now taking away his bottle and that comforting suckle he has known since a newborn. i had both my girls go straight to a straw at 12 months and the only way I found to break the habit was to go cold turkey! good luck!!!!

Honestly I don't have a good reason...lol. I just feel like anything but water would get gross in there over time. Of course I wash them but i'm just weird with stuff like that.
